Sayid

Sayid was slowing down. 5 days earlier he had been hit in the head and the side effects still hadn't left him. He was remembering his lover at home. She flipped through his pictures over and over again. He was still asking Claire how he could ever repay her for returning them. Kate frequently checked on him. Jack came to him with water almost every hour. Sayid was overjoyed and depressed all at the same time. Sometimes he felt like pitching in and sometimes he felt like hiding away like some coward. The more he thought about his lover, the more he wanted to cower. The more he though about seeing her again, he wanted to work. The once tough but sweet man Sayid used to be had left his body. He was either menacing or serious. Kate tried to speak to him, but he just brushed her aside. "Sayid, talk to me...talking is the only way to get your anger out", she said comfortingly. "I don't want to. Get back to work". Kate had never seen him like this. Those same words went on for days. One day, Kate put her foot down. As Sayid was bundling up firewood, Kate approached him. "I am not going to take no for an answer. Talk to me, Sayid!" She looked at him pleadingly. "No! Get out of my way!" He shouted and shoved her away. Kate fell to the ground motionless. Her face was bleeding and from his angle, it looked as though she wasn't breathing. "Kate!" Sayid heard Jack yell. He was coming toward them. Sayid dropped the wood and ran the other way. He hid behind a tree just close enough to see what was going to happen. He watched as Jack kneeled next to Kate. "Kate, Kate.... Can you hear me? Kate!" Jack looked furious. Sayid stood up imagining that Jack was going to run into the jungle looking for whoever ran away. But all he did was gather Kate in his arms and weep. Was she really dead? She couldn't be. It wasn't possible. Was it? "KATE!" Jack wailed. Charlie, Locke, and Hurley ran over to the scene. Sayid ran into the jungle. No one saw him for 3 days.
