AN: Here's my first ever drabble. Totally dedicated to the great non-couple Sam and Jack. Now this is the only 'story' I have finished so far... the others are so long. Any way, those who know me know this well, R&R... good or bad. Hope you like it. It's based before Affinity just because of the Sam/Jack thing. And of course during season 8, hope you like it.
There was something there, something in them that they could feel. They had worked next to each other for years; their friendship grew with every new mission they went on. Their missions were almost as normal as dinosaurs running into automobiles; there was nothing normal about their jobs, nothing that could be told to the free world. They knew every time they stepped through the 'gate that they might never come back, they knew that no matter what as long as they're together they'll be fine. They had come to trust each other, to know whatever would come up the other one would know what to do, or help with the solution. They had a mental telepathy that shot down the weapons of their worst enemies. Each knew what the other really wanted in their life; both knew they couldn't have it. It is true that their friendship had grown more than the Air Force would allow, but that would never stop them from feeling the love they had for each other. When they were apart, on or off world, they both felt broken... lost.
Now she had to learn to survive, she had to because now she had to go off world without him. She and the rest of SG-1 had given their all to get him back, back the way he was before the Ancients. They finally got him back, back the way they knew him. She had been close to breaking every rule in the book when she saw him again. She held back and could tell he had held back too. Now he has been offered the job of General of their base and she the second in command. Neither had declined, he could not for many reasons but also for fear of someone worse taking over. She could not because she had been promoted and given the opportunity of a life time, to be the commanding officer of the SGC's number one team. She now had to learn how to survive off world without her other half.
He had to learn to trust her; he was the one that had to send them out there... to send her off world without him. He had confidence in her, he knew she could do it, he had taught her everything he knew and he knew she could think on her feet. He had to survive on his own, not in battle but in his mind and heart, he had to keep his faith in her and never falter. He had to believe in her because he knew that she would know when he stopped, and she would feel it in her heart as much as he would. He had to live without her and live with the fear he got every time he saw her walk through the gate again. He looks out the window that now blocks him from the missions he once went on. He thought, 'this can work, I can survive this, I have to.'
She sees him disappear again as she steps through the 'gate. She remembers to keep the faith, to know that he would sacrifice anything to get her back. She would do the same for him. Both have already given everything to save the other and would do it again. She knows this and keeps the faith; she sees the faith in his eyes too. She's thinking, as she always does, 'this'll work, I can survive this; I have to.'
AN: Just a reminder... R&R. Hope you liked it. -Ks
