A Sense of Eternity
by: buta-chan
It was a cold night, she tried to focus but all she can think of was him. She was trying to make a choreography as one of her jobs and she's running out of time. Yet all she can think of was him.
She tried to relax her mind a bit listening to a calypso, trying to get an inspiration. Her mind drifted to wonderful places the mind can only imagine. Dancing. Singing. Harmonies and Beats. A paradise for a passionate dancer. But her mind just had to stop on him. No. This was doing her no good. She needed to concentrate if she wanted to survive.
She grabbed her coat, deciding to take a stroll at the cold autumn of September. She passed by the park and wasn't at all surprised to see that there're still kids hanging around at such a late hour. Then as if her feet had a mind of its own, they began to her to the studio where she usually spent her spare time as a child.
She found the place to be deserted and dirty, That was to be expected, since the place hasn't been used for ages. She walked around, trying to get herself to familiarize with the place again. She stopped on the record player, tried to play it, and found it to be working as if it had just been bought yesterday.
She closed her eyes once more and danced into a slow gavotte which she studied a long time ago in France. She imagined an avant-garde dancing along with her. She didn't even notice that the last person she expected ... or rather wanted to see was already gazing at her for a couple of minutes already.
"You seem to get better and better." At the sound of his voice, she stopped abruptly. She gathered her composure and said. "I try to better each day so that I could satisfy my clients." A smirk was forming on his lips.
She felt as if her heart would melt at the sight of his 'all-knowing' smirk, better yet the very sight of him. He just seems to capture every bit of her with a snap of his fingers.
"So, what are you doing here?" She asked. "Don't I have the right to be here?" He replied, getting very close to her. She noticed this and immediately moved away from him. He merely raised an eyebrow.
He tried to make conversation; memories of their childhood were flooding his brain. So he tried to use then to get her to talk. It had worked, somehow.
The moon was illuminating their features. Happiness evident in their eyes. But she didn't expect him to tell her those words.
"I'm leaving tomorrow." She looked at him, shocked. Then she realized that she should've seen this coming. After all, what do you expect from someone whose idea of ever settling down is at the very bottom of his list?
"I see. Well, you should be saving your energy for your trip tomorrow then." She tried her best to sound happy for him, but the quavering of her voice failed her.
He gazed at her. Her eyes reflected like emeralds in the moon. Even with a few lose strands of hair framing her face, she looked beautiful.
"Before I go one last dance?" He said standing up, offering his hand for a dance. She took his hand and they danced in a slow minuet.
She wasn't prepared at all. She wasn't prepared for him to say those words. "I love you..." She smiled. She had been longing for this to happen. She tiptoed, gave him a slow peck on the lips and said, "I love you too..." And as they danced through the whole night, they felt a sense of eternity, and hoped that the night would last forever.
