A/N: This poem is based off a story written by Raven at this address:
The story I'm basing it on is called Rainbows, and it is the world where there is no magic or wizards.
I chose to write this poem because that story made me cry more than any other fanfiction (and almost any other story - excluding those mirrors at the end of Order of the Phoenix) has ever done. I would suggest you go read that story first, because a.) It's a great story b.) The challenge is over all great and c.) This might not make much sense if you don't.
This is Sirius, addressing the Remus of that world.
I am needed
You were writing in that little notebook.
How long has it been?
You don't know who I am,
but you need me.
You were fed up with your life.
How long has it been?
I don't understand this world,
but I'm learning,
and I'm needed.
You threw that damn bottle against your wall.
I knew you would do it,
I knew what it meant,
(so different,
so very much the same.)
and you need me,
now more than ever.
You were lying on the floor.
I knew what was happening.
I wanted to help.
You need me.
You need the real me.
I came to you.
You knew it was me,
(was it dementia?)
You knew it was me,
(as close as you could get.)
You needed me,
I knew that.
But you were always smarter than me,
and as it turned out,
I need you, too.
So goodbye, my friend.
(Not Moony,
not Master,)
Goodbye, my friend.
Goodbye.
