Notes: This was my first attempt at a drabble—which seem to me to be the fan fiction equivalent of a haiku. It was inspired by one of my favorite episodes, "Reptile Boy."

Have I been treating Buffy the way my father always treated me, as if no effort is ever good enough?
"I'm sorry."
"So am I."
I'm sorry you felt you had to lie to me in order to have one night of fun.
"I drive you too hard because I know what you have to face."
I want to keep you alive, Buffy. That's why I train you so much. But it won't help, if you don't believe I'm on your side.
"From now on, no more pushing, no more prodding...just an inordinate amount of...nudging."
He smiles at her.
She smiles back.
It begins.
