Nothing is perfect.
They went through so much together. They were the best friends, and Hughes was the only one that he trusted. They were polar opposites and yet complemented each other perfectly. While one strived to push forward, the other was a steadfast wall. But that wall crumbled. More like was crushed; was felled with just one blow.
But another one was always behind that first wall. This one was more frightening. Nothing shook her, nothing frightened her and she was not afraid to do anything whether be it pointing a gun at him or making him eat. She was the perfect support and she would stay with him till the end, to the top. She was like Maes and yet not.
Her lack of emotion was stunning, while Maes had a stunning range of faces and character: the insane adoration of his daughter, shrewd cunning, steadfast loyalty. Admittedly she was curt to the women he flirted with but they both ignored it. Hughes had always egged him on, telling him to find a wife. They were different but they both had a common goal and mission; to support him and hold him up to the top. One fell, one stood up and held him up on her own.
Nothing is perfect.
But she was.
