ANYWAY
Disclaimer : Lizzie doesn't belong to me. If she did, I might have given her a different S10 storyline...
A / N : I usually don't write about Elizabeth, since she happens to be one of those characters I never really cared about. But having watched ‚Shifts Happen' once again, I came up with the idea for that fic, so I decided to write about her anyway.
Muchas gracias for beta-reading, Helen!
ANYWAY
The leaves on the trees had gradually turned into various shades of yellow, orange and red. The sun dipped lower in the sky each day, the air was misty and smelled of autumn. Another summer had passed. Another summer without Mark.
Inside her house, Elizabeth Corday was lying on her bed. Having returned from work a few minutes ago, the surgeon was now sprawled out on her back, with her cell phone in her hand. She had just checked her voice mail. She was pleasantly surprised that the hot vascular surgeon she'd been sleeping with for some time now had left a message for her again. "Elizabeth," he'd said. "I get off at nine today. Call me if you wanna come over tonight.." Then he'd hung up. As simple as that, an invitation to his bed. Elizabeth smiled at the thought of him.
Eddie Dorsett. By almost any definition, he was very attractive. She was very fond of him. Quite a few of Elizabeth's female co-workers fancied him as well. But there was something about the way he looked at Elizabeth. It made her feel special. The way he smiled at her, the way he touched her. It made her feel beautiful. Desired. Wanted. He made her feel like a woman.
She hadn't sensed anything like that in a long time. Not since her husband had been taken away from her. Elizabeth rolled over and glanced at the framed picture on her bedside table. It was her wedding portrait. She looked at the man in the photo. Mark Greene. Having lost him to cancer only about one and a half years ago, she still thought about him a lot. She missed curling up beside him in cold nights, she missed waking up next to him. He was the father of her daughter, the love of her life. Her everything.
But Mark was gone now. He would never come back. Hence Elizabeth had to adjust to that and had to move on. Eventually, this would mean being with someone else. And Elizabeth couldn't think of a reason, why that someone else shouldn't be Eddie Dorsett.
Across the hall, her three-year-old daughter Ella was watching cartoons with her nanny. Elizabeth felt bad about sneaking out at night, but then again, Ella would never know that her Mommy wouldn't be sleeping in the next room. Mommy would put Ella to bed, and Mommy would be around when it was time to get up. Elizabeth would leave when Ella was asleep, and she would return home before her daughter woke up. All she had to do was asking Kris to stay with Ella for the night, but that shouldn't be a problem.
Looking at her wedding ring which she was holding in her hands, Elizabeth remembered the conversation she had with Abby in the elevator the other night. Abby hadn't criticized her, but still, Elizabeth knew that Abby thought it was too early. Well, deep down inside, even she herself thought it was too early. Her husband had died less than two years ago, and already, she was having a torrid affair with one of her co-workers.
Elizabeth sighed. It was too soon. Way too soon. But then again, Mark would want her to be happy.
Dorsett's perfect body. His perfect, well-shaped body. The way he made her feel...
Elizabeth didn't know if he really made her happy, but waking up next to the handsome surgeon was so much better than sleeping all alone in her big bed every night.
Probably it was too soon. But she picked up the phone and called him anyway...
the end.
Well, so far for my trip to Lizzie-land. Any kind of feedback is appreciated – So please make me a happy girl and tell what you think of it :) Thanks.
