A/N: It's a fairly short poem about Aragorn thinking back on his life while he's dying. Not necessarily Lotr-ish, but I was writing it with Lotr inspiration.
Anguished Heart
I have taken down my enemies,
Conquered impossible numbers,
I have laid waste to ships from the sea.
Yet now, in this blinding pain, it occurs
To me the bitterness of mortality
And the sting of death -
The anguish of responsibility.
I always fought this truth,
Trying to be better only made it worse.
I cry out in my restless sleep,
Fighting the pain in my heart, the curse
That has taken so many loved ones, my pain is deep
Coming from the heart of despair,
Where no one spared a glance,
No one spared their silent care.
Yet this is how it has always been,
Fate as it moves, entwined in its dance.
There is a light at the end of darkness,
A ending of this pain
That nothing can free me from but death
At the end, like rain
Washing all those painful memories away
Healing my anguished heart.
