Elrond farewells the Fellowship.

There had been words less than kind during his latest stay. Aragorn's doubts about his inheritance seemed to grow greater in this place. Conversely, Elrond's doubts about permitting his only daughter to wed him had also grown greater.

Yet as he looked what he feared might be his last upon the young man he had raised as his own, the Elf-lord was hard pressed to restrain the guilt that he felt. He did not want his foster son to go through the trial of the Ring in order to prove himself.

But Aragorn offered freely, and Elrond could not dispute.

This drabble is acutally based on the movie rather than strictly the book.  In the scene in which the Fellowship departs Rivendell with Elrond's blessing, there was a distinct look of trepidation in Hugo's eyes.  I thought that it might stem from Elrond's fear for Aragorn's well-being.
