In North Clock Town, blades of grass are arranged in a circle. This is peculiar. It is said, that, from the circle, emerged a fox, fur the color of the sun and three tails tipped with black.
This is, perhaps, even more peculiar.
This fox was magic. It had powers that no one in Clock Town could explain; it could cure the sick, curse the wicked. Some inhabitants of the town worshipped it like a god. It was said that if you were good to the fox, it would speak to you. Those said to have spoken to the fox said that it asked you questions. If you answered incorrectly, the fox would disappear, but if your answer was right, the creature would grant you of a gift that would make you stronger.
It earned the name "Keaton" which meant "fox spirit", for the animal was too marvelous for a creature of the mortal world.
A traveler came to Clock Town, once, having hailed, he said, from a land called Hyrule. Upon his back was a load of masks of all sorts- large, small, plain, and intricate. The man said he was searching for a new creature to model another mask on. So far, he had had no luck in finding any sort of interesting subject. No one informed him of Keaton, for the fox would not be happy if an outsider learned of its existence.
Eventually, however, the man stumbled upon the fox. He must have, or how else could he have carved a mask in the exact likeness of Keaton? However, no one had seen the fox ever since that mask came into existence, so the man was banished from the town. It was said that the mask was an insult that drove the fox away.
The truth about the Keaton mask was never fully uncovered, because the man was robbed shortly later, and the mask came into possession of the owner of a pawn shop. No one was entirely clear on what happened to Keaton. The mask, it was said, could summon the fox if worn at any place where the blades of grass formed a circle.
No one knew why this was, or even if it was true. Some supposed the mask contained the essence of Keaton, while others scoffed at the idea that there ever was such a creature.
Over, time, the story of Keaton faded to nothing but a mere ghost of a tale.
But could that have been the fox's intention all along?
A/N: No, that wasn't supposed to make any sense.
