"Waiting Up"
by Sara Jaye

Random ficlet! :D First Sailormoon fic I've written in like...WAY over a year or two, even three. XD;; This is just a short little mildly humorous scene I came up with for yet another 15-minute-challenge.

(Sailormoon belongs to Naoko Takeuchi, I'm just borrowing the characters for awhile)

The room was empty except for one, one who laid quietly in the dark against a soft pillow, sporadically glancing around the room through narrowed eyes.

It was half-past eleven, and she had not returned. She should have been home over an hour ago.

Where could she be?

The figure yawned, pawing slightly at the pillow. Her eyes felt heavy.
she wanted so badly to sleep, but the responsible part of her felt the need to wait up.

After all, they were the only ones home that weekend.

'Then again, if she's out with him...anything is possible. Most likely, they went back to his apartment...'

The figure sighed.

'It would have been nice if she'd called first, though.'

Just then, the door creaked open, followed by somewhat heavy footsteps. A bag was put down, a coat and scarf were shed, and finally, the entering one sighed.

"Well, THAT was unexpected!"

She turned on the light and looked over to the bed.

"Luna!"

Usagi Tsukino smiled sheepishly.

"You weren't waiting up for me, were you? I'm sorry, I didn't think I'd be home so late!" she said.

Luna yawned, hopped off the bed and padded over to her charge.

"You could have at least called, Usagi," she scolded.

"But...you can't exactly pick up a phone," Usagi said.

"I can hear voice messages."

"Oh, yeah, that's right."

"So...I take it you had an exciting night," Luna said.

"More like insane!" Usagi sighed. "Guess what happened on the way home?"

"You stopped for ice cream and you both ran into your friends?" Luna asked.

"Nope."

"You went back to his apartment for a nightcap?"

"I wish!" Usagi laughed. "Okay, it's like this. Mamo-chan and I leave the theater and we're talking about the movie, we get on his bike and start riding back to his place..."

"Yes?" Luna stretched.

"And the bike BREAKS DOWN!" Usagi flopped back onto the unoccupied space of her bed. Luna, for some odd reason, almost laughed.

"Oh, my!"

"Out of nowhere, even! So he calls for help, we're waiting there under a store awning for almost an hour, it takes the mechanics awhile to get the bike up and running, and by then it's really dark, so we have to go slowly so we won't get into an accident."

"I see." Luna really did laugh this time, then quickly apologized. "Sorry, sorry."

"Well, it may seem a little amusing now, but it sure wasn't funny when it was happening!" Usagi said. "By then, we were too tired to go back to his apartment and do anything, so I told him to go home and sleep and I'd call a cab. And THAT took me another fifteen minutes or so. Good thing I actually had money this week!" She sighed. "But I got home, safe and sound...I'm sorry I made you worry though, Luna."

"Who, me? Oh, I wasn't worried...I knew you'd come home eventually." Luna yawned.

"Well, anyway, I'm going to take a hot bath before I go to sleep. It was COLD out there!" Usagi said, picking up her bathrobe and walking out into the hall.

Luna just rolled her eyes and laughed.

There was never a dull moment with Usagi.
