Authors note: This is a response to the five minute challenge of having John teach Teyla how to shoot. It's much more enjoyable if you're familiar with Jack and his love/addiction/obsession of fishing. ï
"It looks very difficult."
"It's not that hard, come on. Just put your finger..... here. There you go. And balance with your hand right there down at the barrel."
"This does not seem like a very effective weapon. Why would you use this one when you have so many more effective guns?"
John sighed. "Teyla, it's not so much for fighting, as it is to just to know how to fire it. You said that you wanted to know more about our history. This is part of our history."
"A strange, long gun helped to develop your culture?" The Athosian looked at him disbelievingly.
"In a way." John sighed. "No. Not really. But it's really cool."
"Actually, the guns feels warm."
"No, I mean, ugh." Sheppard hung his head. It was turning out to be harder than he'd thought to teach the alien how to use a rifle.
"We used to hunt with this. For food."
"I see." She still didn't understand why he thought it was so important.
"It's fun."
"Fun?"
"Yeah. you do know what that means, right?"
"Yes, I am familiar with that word. I do not understand, though, why you consider this to be 'fun'. Do you not use your weapons to defend yourself from danger?"
"Yeah. So?"
"So why is that so enjoyable? Isn't this something that you learn out of necessity?"
"Teyla," he settled for the easy answer. "It's not so much about the fighting as it is about the shooting. It's the experience........."
