You Never Thought It Could Happen
This story is dedicated to two friends of mine who were in a car accident this weekend. Though I know that one of them will never come back, I hope that where ever she is, she'll be able to read it and I pray that my other friend will survive and be able to read this story that I dedicate to them.
Monet St. Croix was sitting by her window in the X-Mansion waiting for the arrival of her team mates Paige Gruther and Jubilation Lee. She looked at the clock and saw that it was way past the time that they were suppose to be back. She shrugged her shoulders.
"They're probably running late again. Paige is probably letting Jubilation drive. That girl is always taking the long roads so that she can have an excuse for being out so late."
Two more hours have past and Monet was starting to get a little worried. It was 2 in the morning and the girls still have not come back. She walked around the mansion looking for Sean or Emma, but when she reached the stairs, the sound of a car pulling in stopped her. She sighed with relief and walked towards the door.
She opened it, "Jubilation. Paige. You two better-"
She froze. Instead of seeing the girls, she saw a police man walking towards them with a grim look on his face. She watched him as he slowly made his way up the stairs and towards her.
He took off his hat and asked her, "Is this Professor Xavier's School For Gifted Children?"
"Yes."
"Ma'am. I have some rather bad news."
Before the man could say anything Monet had already read it in his mind. She gasped and slowly dropped to her knees, "No..."
"Ma'am. Two girls that are residents here at this mansion were in a car accident. I believe that their names were Jubilation Lee and Paige Gruther."
Monet looked up at the man, praying that she heard him wrong, "Are they? Are they?"
"I'm sorry, Ma'am. There was nothing that we could do."
That night she cried. She cried all day the next and the day at the girls funeral. In all her time with Generation X she never really considered that Jubilee and Paige would actually be two of her closest friends. She regretted for ever being mean and snobbish towards them and right now she wished that she could turn back time and stop them from going out that front door.
She placed two white roses on their graves and said a silent prayer.
"God. If you are truly there. Please watch over my friends who are in your care. Tell them that I'm sorry for being so cruel and rude to them over the time we spent together."
A tear rolled down her check and onto their graves.
Out of nowhere Monet felt as though someone was hugging her. She did not see anyone, but she could feel the presence of somebody hovering over her. The specters of Jubilee and Paige had come down from heaven and wrapped their arms around their friend and kissed her on her cheek.
"We forgive you." they whispered into her ear, "Don't feel sad for us, Monet. It was our time to go, but you still have a long life to live. Live your life like you've never lived it before. We love you, Monet."
Monet couldn't believe her ears. She actually heard and felt her friends. She smiled and took their words into consideration, as she felt their presence leave.
"Good-bye, my friends. And... Thank you."
