Disclaimer:
I do not own Yu-gi-oh. Nor do I own the characters in this
story.
Author's Notes:
I didn't expect to be able to
get this chapter up so quickly. Don't count on it being this quick
every time. I guess right now, I'm just really enjoying the writing
part of the story.

Chapter
2: Dreams
Tiffany had cried herself to sleep. She did that a
lot. I was amazed sometimes at how much unhappiness she seemed to
have in her life. Her sorrows were almost comparable to my
own.
Nightmares began to come to her. Some black creature was
chasing her in a forest, and her parents ignored her cries for help.
I
pushed the dream aside with my own thoughts. It was easy enough, like
talking to her. I could think a story to her, and her mind would
dream about the story I was telling.
I thought about the first
time I met her. She had found the Millennium Puzzle card in a booster
pack with the instructions to mail it for a prize. She mailed it
immediately, and a week later the real Millennium Puzzle was
delivered to her, along with me, in a package.
I tried to
think about my days as a person, ever so long ago. I couldn't
really remember anything, no matter how hard I tried. I wasn't even
sure what language I had spoken. So instead, I 'remembered' my
life as it would have been if I had lived like Tiffany did now. I
thought about my school, my family, my friends, and the taste of
food. Eventually I fell asleep and shared my dreams of a life with
her.
Tiffany awoke the next morning, wondering about her
strange dreams. It was Saturday, so she grabbed her allowance and
raced for The Snake Eyes, the local gaming store that she loved to
participate in. Despite their seeming lack of interest with their
daughter, Tiffany's parents provided her with a generous allowance.
She might have been able to afford her own place to live if she
didn't always spend it on Yu-gi-oh things.
A new booster
series had come off the market, so she bought 5 new packs. She also
bought a couple of the older ones in hopes of getting one of their
rare cards. This was her way of cheering herself up.
I watched
eagerly as she opened up her card packs. I loved the Yu-gi-oh card
game. Whether I had learned in the Shadow Realm or my life before
that was unclear to me, but either way I had a great love for the
game.
Some
of the cards that Tiffany was pulling out of her packs I had never
heard of. They presented so many new possibilities, and I began to
dream up ways to use each one of them.
Then I saw the Witch of
the Black Forest. I remembered the Shadow Realm, when I had fought to
get out on my own. I remembered Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, and I
remembered how the Witch of the Black Forest had saved me. She had
sacrificed herself for me.
"Must be leftovers from those
weird dreams I've been having." Tiffany thought to herself. I
realized that I had let the thoughts be heard by her unintentionally.
Scolding myself for being careless, I withdrew a bit more from her
mind.
"Soon, she might realize the truth," I thought
to myself. I resolved to remain silent as she went through the rest
of her cards.
After some careful consideration, Tiffany chose
two new cards to add to her deck. She then looked around for a
duelist to challenge.
The day went well. Tiffany won three
games, further solidifying her standing as the shop's top duelist.
She even had a plaque with her name on it, signifying her rank among
the local duelists that played there.
She was practically
skipping down the road like a little girl, oblivious to the strange
sense of foreboding that was clinging to the air. I was not surprised
that it was already night. Tiffany always waited as long as possible
before going home.
Suddenly, a tingling sensation went through
my spirit. I felt like I was being watched. The feeling transferred
to Tiffany as well, though she wasn't sure where it had come from.
It
took me a moment before recognize the feeling. The madman that had
imprisoned me in the puzzle had left a window inside it. Using this
window, he could see what was happening to the bearer of the
Millennium item.
The next moment, something struck Tiffany
hard in the back of the head. She fell down on her hands and knees
while her head began to spin. She looked behind her to find two men
dressed in shabby cloths and smoking cigarettes. I realized that the
lunatic had sent a pair of thugs to attack Tiffany, probably to force
my hand.
She tried to get up and run, but she tripped and fell
flat on her stomach. One of the thugs stepped on her back and held
her down. The other reached down to grab the puzzle.
I made my
decision. With all the power I could muster, I lashed out at the
inner window, shattering it. For a short time, he would not be able
to see what I did.
Tiffany had passed out, for which I was
very grateful. Now I could unleash my abilities without have to
reveal myself to her. Despite my fears and inhibitions, I simply
could not stand by and see her get hurt.
With a burst of light
and power, I took control of Tiffany's
body.

I suppose
that's a little cruel of me, ending a chapter just before a fight.
Well tough luck. Authors have been doing it to me on this site for
two years. Now it's my turn.
So what will Yami do?
How
will he deal with these thugs?
Who is this mysterious mad-man,
and what is he doing?
Will Tiffany discover the presence of
another spirit inside the puzzle?
Will someone review this
story?
I guess we'll have to wait and see.
