Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-gi-oh. Nor do I own the characters in this story.

Author's Notes:

Just a little heads-up. This fanfic is under the belief that every card in the Yu-gi-oh game has power locked in it, like the stone tablets back in the Pharaoh's day.

However, only someone with the power of the Shadow Realm can unlock it. So please don't get mad at me when you try for hours to get your Summoned Skull out of its card and it doesn't work. You probably don't have and magic powers anyway.

Chapter 3: Dark Powers

The two thugs backed up a little when they saw Tiffany change. I did not change her body to match mine; that would be too much. Instead I changed the color of her hair to a dark purple. It was just enough to let them know that this wasn't the same girl they'd snuck up on.

"You stupid oafs," I snapped with Tiffany's voice, but with a much more angry tone. "How could you stoop so low as to sneak up on a poor helpless girl?"

The two shabby-looking men were surprised by the change. "He told us she would be more dangerous then she looked," the first thug muttered angrily. His leer made stretched the tattoo on his face, making the dragon's head look as if it were roaring.

The second one sneered. He pulled a switchblade from the pocket of his tattered leather jacket and popped it open. "We'll see about that." He charged forward, aiming to slash Tiffany's face.

The Millennium Puzzle flashed, and one of Tiffany's cards came out of her deck: Mirror Force. The card floated out of her deck box and began to glow. An invisible barrier formed around her body just before the blade touched her cheek. The thug's knife shattered to pieces the instant it touched the barrier, and both thugs were thrown back against the side of the building.

I glanced at the card and noticed that the picture was blank. The words were also faded out, leaving only the purple background to hint at what type of card it had been. I realized that I had used up the power of one of Tiffany's favorite cards, and I didn't know if it would ever be restored.

"So much for hiding my presence," I thought bitterly.

"What...what was that?" the first thug stuttered.

"I am so gonna kill this little witch!" the second one screamed. He charged forward with his fists raised. His friend hesitated, but he ran after him.

Not wanting to use more cards then necessary, I reached out with my mind to the Shadow Realm. Dark energy flowed into my spirit, building up my powers. I charged up for a moment. Then I released the energies in a blast of Shadow magic. Once again, my attackers found themselves with their backs against a wall.

The first thug became scared and ran off, but the one who had attacked me with a knife was filled with fury. He pulled out a hand gun of some kind and began to fire at me.

With a surge of power, I activated another of Tiffany's cards. This time, I made sure it was a common card: Dark Hole. A huge vortex appeared before me and absorbed most of the bullets. However, one grazed Tiffany's cheek, and another nailed her in the thigh.

But the Dark Hole wasn't done. It pulled the gun-crazed punk in as well. With a shriek he was gone. Then the Dark Hole vanished as well, leaving only a blank green card behind.

I leaned Tiffany's body against the wall and breathed heavily. A lot of damage had been done to her, and there were no healing cards in her deck. I began to feel her nerves cry from the strike she had received on the back of her head. Blood began to pour down her leg from the gunshot wound. I had to do something before she woke up.

Because of the shot in her leg, I could not walk. So instead, I levitated her down the street and to her house, hoping no one would see her. It felt strange to levitate in a human body, but I managed it somehow.

I floated through the door and found Tiffany's parents sitting in the living room reading. Not wanting to attract attention, I tried to slip by quietly. I didn't want to have to explain how their daughter had been shot or how she could float above the ground.

As it turned out, I didn't need to worry. They didn't even notice when I bumped into the buffet as I tried to float up towards the stairs. I managed to catch a vase before it tipped over and fell.

When I arrived in Tiffany's room, I locked the door and pulled out a shoebox from under her bed. It was where she kept all the Yu-gi-oh cards that she didn't use in her deck.

The first card I found was Goblin Secret Remedy. With the skills I'd learned in the Shadow Realm, I reached into the power sealed within the card and unlocked its healing ability.

A large leaf floated up out of the card, leaving it blank like the others. The leaf settled down on Tiffany's chest and soaked into her body.

Not much happened since it was a very weak healing card. The cut on her cheek shrank a bit, and the bullet hole in her leg stopped bleeding. Still, she was a long way from being healed.

I dug through her cards for a stronger one and found Dian Keto the Cure Master. This one completely healed her cheek and greatly reduced the bruises on her back and the bump on her head. The wound on her leg scabbed over as if she had been shot ages ago, and I could feel that it was working once again. Plus, a great deal of the blood that had stained her pants absorbed back into her body.

I began to dig through for another cure card when I felt Tiffany's mind begin to awake. I quickly dove into her bed and pulled the covers on. Then I slipped back into the puzzle and hid from her mind.

I don't know how she reacted to what had happened. I stayed completely out of her mind for fear of her discovering my presence. It was my hope that she would think everything would be a dream and soon forget the whole ordeal. It wasn't a realistic hope. After all, she was still hurt a little, and there were a few blank cards on her dresser to account for.

Nevertheless, I stayed in the puzzle and waited it out.

Originally, this chapter was suppose to be longer, but I realized that it would reveal too much of the plot.

Next up, Tiffany begins to put clues together, and we have the start of the first full duel.
