Author's Notes:

I updated chapter 6 to fix a lot of the inconsistencies and spelling errors. Now I'm posting this short chapter, with the final battle of the local tournament.

Enjoy.

Chapter 11: Ultimate Monster

"This is it," the official smiled as he indicated our seat. "This will be the final match to determine who will participate in the European tournament. Are the two of you ready?"

To Tiffany's disappointment, Stephen had not made the final cut. Instead, we would be facing the girl that had defeated him.

"Good luck Tiffany," he cheered. "Watch out for her. She's a really good duelist."

"Your name is Tiffany?" the girl asked. "Mine's Amanda. I'm sure you'll want to remember that name since I'm going to take your chance of seeing Europe when I win this duel, but don't think you're good enough to be considered a rival to me. I've dueled with countless duelists, and I..."

Amanda went on for a while, and I eventually had to tune her out. She had a lot of arrogance in her voice. Tiffany was disgusted by her attitude. I, on the other had, was more worried with the power I was feeling from her deck. Something about it made me shiver, which traveled through Tiffany's body.

"Why do I feel this sense of dread?" Tiffany wondered to herself. I tried to get a hold of myself as I drew my cards.

Amanda set her deck down as well and drew her opening hand. To my surprise, I noticed that she had a fusion deck. Most people didn't bother with them, at least as far as I knew.

"We'll play this match as a normal card game," the official announced, giving me a look. "Please refrain from your hologram tricks. I will be keeping score for both duelists. Good luck to the both of you."

"Let her have all the luck," Amanda said under her breath just loud enough for Tiffany and me to hear it. "She's gonna need it."

The official flipped a coin, and I won the toss. I drew a card and considered my opening move. "I play one monster in attack and lay two cards facedown behind it."

There, I thought to myself. That should protect me from whatever it is she's got up her sleeves.

Amanda drew a card and beamed. "Perfect! I play Heavy Storm to destroy your facedown cards."

"I knew I shouldn't have laid down both my trap cards at once," Tiffany thought to herself as I discarded the cards. I chose to ignore her.

Amanda continued. "I play Mystic Tomato in attack mode and end my turn."

I stared at the monster, trying to understand her strategy. I knew that if I attacked and destroyed it, she would be able to special summon a new monster on the field, but the replacement monster could only have an attack of 1500 or less, and it could only be summoned in attack position.

Should I use my Reigeki to destroy it? I wondered. It seems like a waste, but I can't shake this fear I have welling up inside of me.

"I have no reason to be afraid of her," Tiffany told herself. She had heard some of my thoughts. Well, if she could be brave then so could I.

I drew my card and smiled. "I sacrifice my facedown monster to summon Summoned Skull in attack mode. He will then destroy your Mystic Tomato and hurt your life points."

The official jotted down the change in life points. Amanda was down to 6900 LP. She didn't seem too shaken up by it, though. In fact, she was laughing.

"I'll replace my Mystic Tomato with a card from my deck. Behold Cyberstien, one of my deadliest monsters."

"You've got to be kidding me," I replied. "I know about that monster. He can special summon a fusion monster for you, but you lose 5000 life points. What fusion monster is worth that?"

She only smiled wickedly. They always smile like that when they're up to something.

"Well, if he's that important to you, I guess he deserves a Reigeki," I announced, laying down the magic card. "That destroys him and leaves your field wide open. Now I'll end my turn."

Amanda laughed. "That was a futile effort. I draw a card and play Monster Reborn to revive my Cyberstien. Then I will use his effect to special summon a monster from my deck."

The official changed her life points again. Now she only had 1900 LP. I happened to catch Bakura's eye as he watched her summon her monster. He shook his head sadly, as if the duel was already over.

Amanda slammed down the card she had chosen. "I summon Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon in attack mode!"

"You what?!?!?!" I gasped, staring in horror at the card. The Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon had an attack-strength of 4500. It was one of the most powerful monsters in the entire game.

...not to mention the Shadow Realm, I thought. Now I knew why I had felt the fear from Amanda's deck. If there was one monster I never wanted to face again, it was the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.

Tiffany didn't understand the terror that was welling up inside of her from me. "What is wrong with me? Sure it's a powerful monster, but it's still just a monster. I can beat it."

"Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon will destroy your Summoned Skull and take 2000 of your life points," Amanda announced. I discarded Tiffany's Summoned Skull, and the official jotted down the life points change.

Amanda then placed two cards facedown and ended her turn.

"Come on deck," Tiffany pleaded as I reached for the next card. "Please, don't fail me now."

I drew the card. Man-Eater Bug! I thought. When it gets flipped, I'll be able do destroy her Ultimate Dragon with its effect.

"I set this monster facedown..." I started, placing the Man-Eater Bug in defense mode.

"No you don't," Amanda laughed. "I activate my trap card: Shadow Eyes. This flips your monster to face-up attack without triggering any flip effects."

Man-Eater Bug was forced to attack mode. He was a sitting duck for the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.

I can't do this, I decided. There's no way I can match the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.

Amanda destroyed the Man-Eater Bug, and Tiffany's life points dropped to 1950, just 50 more then Amanda's

"It's over," I whispered. And with that, I retreated to the puzzle.

What are you thinking, Yami? What about the Heart of the Cards? What about Tiffany? You can't just leave her like that! Well hopefully Tiffany will set him strait in the next chapter before they really do lose.

If you are a fan of the Yu-gi-oh card game, you've probably realized that I'm using a lot of cards that have only been released in Japan. I thought about just using the American cards, but what's a Yu-gi-oh story without the main character going up against a Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, right?

Next chapter, we finish the tournament and enter more plot development. Wait till you see what's going to happen!
