This is dedicated to A Life of Rules is No Fun (aka Darkfire). Without her support and inspiration, this poem would never be.

A follow-up to "Black," which was Hiei's reflection on himself and the world around him. This is a poem in another's point of view, reflecting on Hiei. I hope you enjoy it, and please review!

So lonely in the darkness,

Not a light to brighten his path.

This is the man I see.

So frightened in the shadows,

A call without an answer.

This is the man I see.

I watch him in the black of night,

And I wish it wasn't so.

Can he not see the day that lights his world?

Can he not rejoice in the love that is shown to him?

Can he not express his true feelings?

No.

Instead he hides there in the blackness,

Alone and afraid,

Painfully awaiting the break of day,

But realizing that, for him, it may never come.

This is the man I see.

How I wish I could take the black out of his heart,

Cleanse the depths of his soul.

How I wish he would open his eyes,

Make the sun rise up in spite of the darkness.

But perhaps it is not meant to be so.

Perhaps it cannot be done.

Perhaps he will never break free.

Perhaps he is destined to live forever in this world,

Where all he can see is black.
