Golden Hobbit

Aragorn, son of Arathorn stood in the hallway stunned to disbelief about what he had just saw.

The elf, Thenindiel had disappeared right in front of his eyes without a trace!

He had known she was different from the beginning. Her Elvish had a slight accent on it that he couldn't describe and when she spoke the Common Tongue, there were some words he had never heard.

Aragorn frowned and shook his head definably. Thenindiel, was certainly very strange, but why would she lie to him?

A sudden memory flashed in his mind. The Ring! She had taken the most important object of power in Middle Earth with her. His confused feelings changed to anger. What would happen now?

Aragorn sheathed his sword and hurriedly walked back to his room. He has never felt so worried in his whole life. The most powerful object in the history of Middle Earth had disappeared and no one knew where it was... unless he could ask... Aragorn shook that thought firmly out of his mind. It would be too dangerous.

The Ranger opened the door to find four hobbits, wide-awake. Sam, Pippin and Merry were looking at him anxiously and Frodo's face was covered with panic.

"The Ring's gone Mr. Aragorn!" cried Sam. "I could have sworn it was beside Mr.Frodo's bedside table twenty minutes ago! What-?"

"Thenindiel took it." He said unemotionally.

"I could have known." Merry said miserably. "There was something strange about that Elf I didn't like!"

"But what are we going to do? Mr.Frodo..?" Sam's words faltered.

Frodo said nothing and merely stared at his hands. Finally, he spoke.

"Isn't this a good thing? Now that the Ring is gone? Midde Earth is safe! We can all return home without a fear!"

Aragorn shook his head. "We do not know whether she is a spy for Sauron or if she even comes from this place."

"But if she is a spy..." Pippin stopped his words, knowing the impact.

"Then it will be too late." Aragorn said grimly. "We need to know exactly where she has gone and what her intentions are."

"How are we meant to find out that?" Pippin demanded.

The hobbits stood outside the inn, as Aragorn emerged, leading the baggage pony, Bill from behind.

"Everything's packed." he said cheerfully.

"But Mr.Aragorn sir," Merry protested. "You still haven't told us where we are going!"

"Rivendell, Master Merry. Now come, we must make haste, there is little time left."

Aragorn's thoughts were troubled. He had woken early this morning and already, he could feel something different. He wasn't sure if it was a bad sign or if it was good either. If Thenindiel had given the Ring to the Dark Lord then things would have gone chaotic a long time ago.

For most of that day, the Ranger led the hobbits into forests and ferns, stopping briefly only for rests and a small lunch. He was used to this, but his other companions weren't. Merry and Pippin complained of not having tea, second breakfast and other meals he had never heard of in his life. Sam often fell far behind, (he was leading Bill) and would then suddenly appear out of no where, puffing loudly.

They spent a night on Weathertop. He had been afraid that something dangerous might have happened, but it was rather peaceful instead.

The next morning, Aragorn had searched the grounds for any traces of the Black Riders, but most surprising to him, there was no evidence of them at all, since they were in Bree with Thenindiel.

And now, it was mid-morning and they were making very good progress. He was deep in thought, when Sam shouted.

"Mister Aragorn sir, I see a rider up ahead!"

The Ranger stopped and looked straight ahead. The hobbit was correct. A lone rider stood near the edge of a small hill, the face covered mostly with a cloak.

"Get behind that tree!" he hissed, hustling the protesting hobbits behind a large oak and quickly tying Bill's rein to a low branch.

Quickly, Aragorn drew his sword and held it firmly in his grip. Making sure he was well hidden, he walked swiftly near the stranger and his mount.

"Who are you?" he demanded loudly.

The stranger stood silently, as if amused Aragorn didn't know who he was.

"Who are you?" he repeated. "Speak!"

The stranger threw back his hood revealing someone the Ranger certainly did not expect- Gandalf

The wizard laughed. "I'm surprised you did not recognize me Aragorn, I thought it was rather obvious."

"Where were you?" Aragorn blurted. "At the Prancing Pony, you did not arrive."

"I was delayed, my friend."

Gandalf explained to him how he had been held prisoner by Sarumon, who had suddenly changed sides, and how the Great Eagle had saved him and then, how he had rode Shadowfax back here.

Aragorn quickly explained what had happened in the last days. The wizard looked skywards thoughtfully. "You say the elf took the Ring then?"

The Ranger nodded helplessly.

"Hurry."

He and Aragorn quick went back to where the hobbits were. They were whispering loudly, and he sincerely hoped that no one could hear them apart from him and Gandalf.

They stopped abruptly when they heard them approaching.

"Gandalf!" Frodo cried. He dropped a small pack he was holding and ran to him wrapping his small arms around him in a tight hug.

The other hobbits immediately launched themselves into questions and comments.

"Why didn't you-"

"We met an elf called-"

"at Bree and-"

"she stole the-"

"And now we are on our way to Rivendell to see the elves!" Pippin ended.

Aragorn, who hadn't properly understood what they had said, nodded politely.

"Tell me why you are going back Aragorn." Gandalf said, smiling to the hobbits.

"To seek council and the other reason, you certainly know." the Ranger replied softly.

The wizard nodded. "Then come, we don't have much time left.
