Ache.
Throb.
A pounding, heavy pain-heat that seemed to echo the rhythm of his heart. Thud, thud, thud, Robin.
Moving was difficult. Thinking was more so. Robin was used to dealing with a contrary body, forcing it to go beyond its limits while dealing with injuries, but how does one do the same with a mind that's turned traitor, changing strengths to weaknesses?
Sleep was the antithesis of a soothing rest. Fever pitched dreams of darkness. Of too few flashes of light. Of false (real) memories of trailing, phantom touches that create more turmoil within a dangerously chaotic mind.
Sleep held no respite. Night had turned her back to him.
His friends (teammates, subordinates) were looking at him, worried, suspicious, hoping glances searching for answers to questions they dare not speak aloud. Robin cannot give them.
Robin does not want to give them; answers as dangerous as their enemies (only Slade, always Slade) would be, could be, weapons against them all.
The thoughts within want him (need him) to wield those devastating words.
When had the darkness become such a hell? His sanctuary, his home, his mind (soul) belonged to someone else.
FIN.
