Duo was a superstitious person; he was always on the look out for something to guide him on the path he believed was right. Duo chouse his first toy because someone had misspelled 'double clearance price' so that double was spelled duoble. He has chosen his best friend because the night before his brother told him stories of great heroes and a boy in his class was named Heero. Duo had even chosen the college he would attend that fall do to, what some might call a coincidence and he called, a sign.
This was the chief reason that Heero, who is still Duo's first and best friend, was not shocked when Duo broke up with his girlfriend and also Heero's girlfriend only to run up and announce to him, in a happy and serious tone, "Heero we're meant to be!" Heero just laughed and told Duo he was straight, it was stupid to think Duo had put any thought into this. Duo then proceeded to place a very convincing argument to Heero that they were both, not only gay but perfect for one another, Heero thought maybe Duo really had feelings for him, that is until he brought up the sign. "And in closing, today I saw H loves D carved into the big oak tree at Walding, and that made me think because yesterday I was thinking about my relationship, and how Hilde just wasn't attractive, and I found a picture of you walking in the cherry blossoms," He jokingly fluttered his eyelashes "YOU WERE VERY ATTACTIVE LOOKIJNG!" He paused to breath "So, when I saw the carving I rushed over to dump Hilde, and ran into Quatre, guess what, HE'S GAY! It was a huge shock and that was the cementing factor!"
That's when the argument lost it's persuasive implications, not that Heero had minded Duo's epiphany, He was never fond of women and was rather fond of Duo, but he wasn't happy Duo came to this conclusion based on a stupid sign. "Duo, you sure a HELL cannot determine a lasting love based on stupid signs!!!" Crushed and angry Heero stood and left the room, he could have sworn he heard duo crying. He walked for a long time and ended up in the Waldinng Park by the big oak, all caved up with names. Wait, he'd been there that day, he had just come home when Duo bounded in, HE was just carving the initials, Duo couldn't have missed him there.
"I saw you." The voice was faded and saddened, "Silly me thought it would be good to think of it as a sign, but it's not really, like me seeing you r picture wasn't random, cause I look at it all the time. So, I couldn't just married Hilde, like I planed when I met her in the bridal store, no matter what the universe says, I can't help but, but love...you." Heero turned and looked at Duo, his Head downcast.
"You don't need to hide behind signs, Duo." Heero lifted his head, "Because, I love you too." And then he kissed him.
