I Never Knew
Family Feuds
Delta Tonks glanced down from the balcony in Flourish and Blotts, the bookstore in Diagon Alley from where she was buying her fourth year schoolbooks, to see a blonde-haired third year glaring up at her. She held his gaze before moving to the top of the stairwell and saying,
"Draco." She paused, looking him over. "How nice to see you again." Her voice was ringing with sarcasm. She stepped halfway down the stairs. "How are you dear cousin?" She continued, relishing the look on Draco's face. He hated being reminded that they were cousins, and especially that he was related to a half-blood.
Draco's jaw muscles clenched and he spat, "No cousin of mine would consort with mudbloods, you blood-traitor!"
Delta knew full well he was referring to Hermione Granger and Sienna Vintalori, two of her best friends. They were both muggle-born and Draco took every chance to tell them what he thought of them, which was very little. In his opinion, Delta wasn't much better than them, being half-blood. Her mother's family had disowned her when she married a muggle-born wizard, wrecking the line of purebloods.
"Now, now, Draco. Play nicely..." Lucius Malfoy. Delta's uncle. "Well, well..." He looked at the young girl. "...Delta." Lucius's cold eyes met hers and he stepped beside his son.
"Lucius." Delta's voice was emotionless other than a hint of disdain. "So nice to see you again..."
"I wish I could say the same to you." Pausing, he looked her up and down. "But then again, you are a blood-traitor."
Delta said nothing, only stood and looked at the father and son. She didn't want to lower herself to their behaviour in public, as it had gotten into trouble too many times, especially at school.
Without saying any more Lucius turned in his heel and headed for the door out of the bookstore. Scowling at Delta Draco said, "See you at Hogwarts, Tonks." Turning on his heel he followed his father.
Delta rolled her eyes. As much as she loved reminding Draco that they were related, she hated reminding herself that she, in fact, was the niece of a Deatheater - Lucius. Of course, after the First Rise of Voldemort he had escaped being arrested, by probably lying or buying his way out of it. There was only one way to describe Lucius Malfoy. He was a bstrd - plain and simple. And his son was not much better. Draco took pride in the fact he was in Slytherin - and a Malfoy - and he made sure that everyone knew it.
