Chapter Four

Chris looked around the camp, Buck was sitting near JD, Josiah and Ezra sat on the other side, and Nathan sat close to the motionless body.

Chris just couldn't believe how everything had turned out.

So many World Wars, and here they were, fighting in the Sixth World War. The last war had nearly killed them all, the once beautiful planet had turned to a waste land.

Where there was once billions of millions of people, only a few million remained. First World countries became third world countries, buildings were destroyed, power pants were gone, toxic waste covered twenty percent of the lands.

It was horrible.

Because of the waste, people were forced to move from their wreckages, that used to be their homes, trying to live somewhere safe, somewhere where people could live without fear of dying.

This is when this war began, the war for land.

In the year 4983 the remainder of the people split, forming their own groups, each one demanding the best piece of land, leaving the rest to rot.

Chris shook his head sadly. There were so few people, and here they were, killing each other, just for a piece of land.

Three years went by, and still they fought. Finally their leader, General Orrin Travis, of Four Corners declared one last fight for the land.

Travis had thought that he made the right decision, but, he didn't realise how many enemy soldiers there were. Their recourses disappeared quickly, leaving them with hardly anything. Knowing that it was no use, Travis ordered the evacuation, leaving only a few teams to remain so that the others could escape.

And this is why they were here, only problem was that seven men weren't strong enough. Chris looked at how young everyone was, and how tired they all looked. He felt the pain in his stomach, and wondered when last he ate something.

His mouth began to water as he tried remembered what bread tasted like, or how wonderful a cold beer would taste.

He closed his eyes for a second, and that was all it took.

He heard a twig break, his eyes snapped open, only to reveal six enemy soldiers pointing their guns at them.

Chris knew that he didn't have time to pick up his gun and shoot, he knew that he, and his team would be dead before he could even fire.

He looked at his team, he could see the fear in JD's eyes, the anger in Buck's, Ezra's eyes were emotionless, Josiah looked like he was praying, and Nathan, Nathan was too busy trying to cover Vin with his own body.

"Surrender, now, or die," The leader of the enemy spoke.

Chris just glared at the man as he slowly raised his hands above his head. He motioned to the others to do the same.

He just couldn't believe it, he silently cursed himself for losing concentration. He was supposed to be the leader, he was supposed to be aware.

His mistake wouldn't just cost him his life, but the lives of his team. But he was dammed if he was going out without a fight. He just needed to see what happens. Maybe he could escape, or he could trade his life for his team.

He would just have to wait.

Their hands were roughly tied behind their backs, which was then tied around their waists. Chris was tied up first, behind him, Ezra was being tied up with the same rope. Josiah, Buck, JD and Nathan were tied up afterwards. Each tied with the same rope.

Before Chris could see what was happening to Vin, a hood was placed over his head.

Chris tried to take the hood off, but it didn't budge.

"How am I supposed to walk?" Chris asked.

No response.

Ezra tried to shake his head, but received a blow to the stomach. He gasped as the hood was placed over his head.

Josiah knew it wouldn't help to fight, so he watched the young man walk up to him, carrying the hood in his hands.

Josiah smiled when the young man couldn't reach Josiah's head. But that was short lived when he felt a hard blow on his back which forced him to his knees.

"Smile at that," the young man snarled as he placed the hood on Josiah's head.

Buck looked at JD, warning him to do that they said. JD nodded, knowing what would happen if he refused.

Buck just glared at the man as the hood was placed on his head, sending him into darkness.

JD gulped when he saw that it was his turn, he looked at the guy in front of him, before closing his eyes. He felt the hood going over his head.

Nathan looked over to where Vin lay, then back to the man in front of him.

"What are you going to do to him?" Nathan asked as he pointed to Vin with his head.

The man followed Nathan's direction, then turned to Nathan, with an evil grin on his face.

Nathan didn't like the look, before he could say anything, the hood was placed over his head too.

Chris felt someone grab his arm, he tried to shrug it off, but the grasp as to tight. He was forced to move, walking in an unknown direction.

Ezra felt a tug at his waist was the rope was pulling pulled. Left with no option, he was forced to walk in the direction of the pulling force.

Josiah, Buck, JD and Nathan were forced to follow, as the rope pulled tightly.

The ground was uneven, which made it hard to keep their balance. They staggered along, in the unknown direction, with the enemy as their only companions.
