Good-Bye

Sango, Kirara, Shippou, and Miroku had left as soon as Naraku was proclaimed dead. Inuyasha and Kagome have been left with a decision, and unsure about the future. What would they do with the jewel?

Inuyasha held it tenderly in his hand, hating himself. Just months before, he had been willing to slay any amount of people and demons alike to gain possession of this innocent pink stone, giving him the ability to become full demon. Kagome sat beside him, looking wistfully at the jewel, wondering how many had died for it. Unless it was destroyed completely, Kagome was sure many more would go after it, and also perish.

"Make a wish Inuyasha."

What could he wish for? He could become full demon...but then what? He doesn't feel the urge to destroy anymore. It's like the anger from his heart has been soothed by his time spent together with Kagome. He doesn't feel alone anymore. Inuyasha affectionately put his arm around Kagome.

"I-Inuyasha? What are you doing?!" Kagome whisper slowly faded as she also put her arms around him

"Kagome...I don't know what I want anymore... Once I become a full demon, what will happen to you? I don't want you to go...I want you here, with me."

Inuyasha looked into Kagome's eyes, surprised to find tears, steadily falling.

His first impulse was to swear at her for being stupid. But then he calmed himself and wiped her tears away with his hand.

"Why are you crying?"

Kagome slowly shook her head. "I don't want to leave...I also want to be here with you..."

Inuyasha got up and started walking to the well, a tight grimace on his face. "It's alright...you can always come back to visit..."

"That's the think Inuyasha...I can't. Kaede told me that once the jewel is gone, there will be nothing more connecting me to this world. I can't come back again. Ever."

"Then we just won't use the jewel."

"But Inuyasha..what about your dream to become a demon? Isn't this the reason you came after the jewel?"

"I don't need power..as long as I've got you..."

"Inuyasha! Its not just about your long pursued wish, it's that the jewel must be used! If not, how many more will die, fighting over it? Make your wish!"

"But I don't want it!"

Kagome stood up and sat on the edge of the well, glaring in.

" There can be only one me in this world. Kikyou belongs here, and I in my era. Go, go make your wish and have a happy life with Kikyou like you've always wanted! Good-bye, Inuyasha. This will be the last time we meet."

Before Kagome slip down through the well's portal, Inuyasha could hear kagome's voice saying:

"I love you Inuyasha. I always will."

"I love you too...Kagome..."
