Regrets

Dedication: For my friend who introduced me to drabble...

The baby's crying in the next room.

Screams fill the house. Her screams?

Laughter. Definitely not her own.

Her head rolls to the side. Her husband stares back with his doll's eyes. No greater sacrifice than this...

She closes her eyes. Through the flame in her mind she sees a picture of them-happy.

Filled with regret, her life flashes forward, to every lost moment to guide her son through life, for him to consciously know how much his parents love him, would always love him.

The screaming stops. The laughter doesn't.

One last breath, last thought. "Neville, we love you."
