A/N: It's been a long while since I posted any Chrono Trigger works, so I decided to get my creative juices working and do one… Again, this isn't the first CT fic I started, although I doubt I'll EVER get it finished. -.-; Oi. Oh well. I had a random idea pop into my head, so I decided to work on it. It's kinda AU, but I thought it was cute. I hope to do a Glenn or Lucca-centric fic next. Or maybe Robo. Who knows? Anyways, R&R.

Spoilers: The outcome of the trial and the fair.

Pairings: Implied Crono/Marle

Rating: G

Disclaimer: I do not own Chrono Trigger.

Judgement Day

Crono paced around his cell. Once, twice. It didn't matter. It was all a blur to him. Deep down he still couldn't believe he was in jail. Oh sure, when he was a kid, Lucca used to tease him that he was such a wild boy that he would spend most of his life in jail, but neither of them ever thought it would be true.

He walked over to his window and stared through the sliver cut out in the wall at the setting sun. It looked beautiful. He watched the birds fly in the sky. Free. Unlike him. Trying to get his mind out of the gloomy clouds of despair, he looked back to his bed and walked over to bed where the bundle still laid. It had been there since he arrived.

"Some sympathizers brought that for you, you felon!" one of the guards snapped as he barely touched the bundle. He almost jumped from shock but shrugged it off. Slowly, he untied the silk covered bundle and looked down at the six Eithers that were in it.

Well, he thought as he smirked slightly, these will come in handy… His smirk turned into a small frown. If I ever get out of here. He almost let out a soft sigh as something else caught his eye. Carefully, he moved the Eithers away until he saw a small letter. Curious, he opened it up and began reading it.

Dear Crono,

I hope you get this. The guards were rather strict about letting me give you anything. I'm so sorry how everything turned out. You were so nice to me, and now, you're in trouble because of me. I know it won't matter now, but I wanted to tell you thanks for showing me around the fair. It was the most fun I had in a long time. I hope one day in Heaven you'll find it in your heart to forgive me for this. I swear I didn't know this would happen. Thanks for saving me too. I wish we could have gotten the chance to spend more time together; you really are a great guy.

Forever in your debt,

Marle

Crono's teal eyes shot up in surprise. It was from Marle. She felt guilty over what had passed. It wasn't her fault. He frowned and thought back on their brief adventure. They had so much fun together, even when it seemed dangerous, it seemed almost surreal now to him as he played back the images in his mind. Then, his thoughts drifted on Marle.

She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his life with her sunshine blond hair and sapphire blue eyes. Her voice was light, cheerful, and full of life. Even though she wasn't as strong as a knight, she could hold her on in a fight, and that fact itself impressed him a lot. He couldn't explain why, but he felt his heart almost swell every time the two locked eyes with each other.

His eyes glanced out the window. It would be dawn soon. Quickly, he stuffed the Eithers in his pockets, and he looked down at Marle's letter thoughtfully. Slowly and carefully, he folded up her letter and stuffed it down his shirt and patted the letter, which was over his heart. He faintly smiled.

Don't worry, Marle. I don't regret meeting you or the time we spent together, he thought as the rooster crowed. The sun had risen. Three days had passed. It was now judgement day. He let the guards handcuff him and lead him out of the cell.
