Kingdom Hearts
PAIRING: Riku/Sora
RATING: G. Even though Riku
is acting a bit like the Creepy Guy who lives across the
hall.
SUMMARY: Riku looks, and finds things have
changed.
DISCLAIMER: Kingdom Hearts is a video game. The closest I
actually come to owning it is buying it and playing it, and having
huge Ursula repeatedly kick my ass. So – Squaresoft and Disney,
thanks a lot.
Riku said, "You've changed, Sora."
Sora slowly lowered the arm that held his precious Keyblade. "No, I haven't. Have I?" He whirled around looking to Goofy and Donald for assistance. They were pretending very hard that they weren't there.
Riku walked toward Sora, invading his personal space. "Of course you have," he said. "Yesterday you couldn't beat me on the beach, now you're killing those little black things." Riku gestured to the burn marks on the ground. Tranverse Town would be having a hell of a clean up in the future.
"Heartless. They're called Heartless," Sora muttered under his breath.
The older boy shook his head, rolled his eyes, and stared at Sora intently. "So now you're the expert warrior?"
Sora took a few steps backward. "Is it so difficult to believe?"
"Look at yourself, Sora," Riku said. "This place, that Keyblade, and those two," he pointed at Donald and Goofy, who were now very intently discussing the last royal scandal, "They've all changed you. And not for the better."
"I haven't changed at all!" Sora snapped.
Riku grinned a snake's grin. He reminded Sora all too much of the strange man he'd met outside the Coliseum, the one with the blue flames on his head.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" he asked, defensively.
Again, Riku closed the gap between them. "Look at yourself, Sora," he repeated.
Sora's hands gripped the Keyblade tightly. It was getting harder to control – Riku was acting like a threat, and that meant that the blade wanted to attack. Sora couldn't blame it, though – Riku definitely had him off guard. "You look at yourself," he countered.
"The view's much better here," Riku replied. The maintained eye contact was more unsettling than Riku's behaviour, but he looked over Sora's head at the last moment, and the spell was almost broken.
Sora heard Donald's alarmed quack a split second later. He whipped around, blade at the ready. A lone Heartless erupted from the air, unfolding out of itself and leaving the stink of sulfur in the air. By the time the creature was defeated, Riku was gone.
Sora looked around the town square. He couldn't see Riku, but Sora knew he was there. He could feel Riku's eyes on him, and clear and as unsettling as an open wound. He took off for the secret base – Leon would know what to do.
Unseen, Riku smiled. It wasn't as if he was going to hurt the kid or anything.
He was just looking.
