"Is this what you meant by salvation?"

Inuyasha turned, his breath caught in his throat. "Kagome…"

A raven-haired girl glared at him from under bangs plastered to her forehead. Resting on her was the body of his half-brother Sesshomaru, his arms around her neck, his cheek resting on her head. Her voice was harsh and cracked; her eyes close to primal. Both bodies were drenched by the rain that ran down the corporate windows in rivulets.

"Answer me."

Inuyasha swallowed in an attempt to moisten his dry throat. "You…You dragged him here." He concluded. Kagome remained silent.

The rain hit the pavement in beats. Palpitate.

The room shivered then froze again.

"What…" Inuyasha paused, then began again, still shaky. "That is to say…Why are you here?" Perceptibly.

"Why am I here?" The laugh was bitter, like the aftertaste of grapefruit. She shifted under Sesshoumaru's weight. A hand reached up and touched pale cheek. "Sesshomaru."

Gently she turned him over, placing him on the ground face up. "Sesshoumaru," she repeated softly. "Wake up now. C'mon you lazy bag of bones."

He groaned perceptibly, eyes fluttering open. "…ka…"he rasped, the rest was a silent mouthing.

"Shh. I want you to see. No, don't go back to sleep. You have to be awake. I'll make it worth your time, I promise." She rose slowly, slipping a knife from the back of her pants surreptitiously.

"Kagome," Inuyasha croaked. "What are you going to do?"

Her eyes meet his; gray and gold clashing silently.

"Inuyasha." Her arms slipped around his waist, gripping the silk directly below his shoulder blades.

The knife reflected the rain; mirror-tears.

Inuyasha lay still on Kagome's lap, the blood barely visible through his red silk shirt. His eyes watched her, wondered why.

Kagome ran her fingers along his cheek bone, across his forehead, through his hair.

The knife had pierced deep…but not deep enough.

"I…think I loved you once." Sesshomaru listened from across the room. "But it was just a girlish crush, a lie. We could never really be together. At least, that was what I told myself."

A pause.

The rain cracked on the windowsill.

"I used to think that this was the way to do it. To kill you. Somewhere secluded, no interruptions. …The rain was a plus." She added with a tentative smile.

A trembling sigh.

"Goodbye Inuyasha."
