"Well, it's the end," Remus said lightly, sipping at his cup of tea. "You're innocent, finally, Voldemort defeated, Pettigrew dead…" He flinched suddenly. It was never at Voldemort's name, he never feared Voldemort. No, it was Peter, weak, useless Peter that he was scared of, scared because he couldn't kill him. Remus… standing over Peter, not able to kill him.

"Don't concern yourself with that scum," Sirius said harshly.

"He wasn't the Peter I knew. I still can't believe…" He broke off, staring into his cup. "Wormtail… that was our name for him—I always felt Voldemort was mocking us by using it." He looked up at Sirius. Yes, Sirius knew the feeling, all too well. How could you have betrayed us, Peter? All of us, betrayed our trust?

"That was the past, Moony. Why don't you ever look into the future, instead of dwelling on the past?"

"Can a werewolf have a future to look forward to?" There was a trace of bitterness in his voice. So that was what Remus thought. Remus, the optimist…

"Remus, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way…"

"No, I shouldn't have said that. This was supposed to be a cheerful meeting, remember? So, what are your plans for the future?"

"Well, I have a house." Sirius gestured around the living room. "And Harry still wants to live with me, for now, even though he's graduated and could live by himself. I guess I want to play quidditch, or be a teacher, or work at the ministry… It'll be hard going back to a normal life, after all these years…" Hard, yes. Damn hard, no one to hate, no one to fight, no one to kill, except yourself. Once a criminal, always a criminal. Sirius noticed how everyone tried to avoid him in Diagon Alley, how no one would talk to him, how he got suspicious, wary looks.

Remus's eyes, twin globes of golden fire, burned into him. Sirius had the feeling Remus was looking inside of him, he was reading his mind, knew all his secrets… They stared at each other, silent. Sirius could hear the ticking of the clock, hear his own heart beat so loudly, he thought, that Remus probably could hear it too.

Remus shifted slightly, still watching him, his eyes expressionless, no, filled with something… he couldn't remember, what was it? He felt his heart pounding in his chest, all sane thoughts leaving him, replaced by… no, that wasn't it… yes, desire. No, I thought that was gone… an old school crush, an old obsession…

Suddenly, Remus reached over, and grabbing Sirius's head, kissed him, his golden eyes burning with… Sirius could see it now, a reflection of his own lust and desire. Surprised, he instinctively pulled away.

Remus turned away, sharply. "I-I'm sorry…" He sounded miserable, regretful… Sirius reached over, pure desire flooding his body, his heart, his mind, his soul… "Re—" he started, voice strangled. He never finished, body taking over, and leaned against Remus, kissing him deeply, passionately. A tidal wave of emotions engulfed him and threatened to sweep him away as Remus returned the kiss fiercely.

"Re-Remus," Sirius gasped, finally pulling away. God, he was beautiful, the long years still hadn't robbed him of his lithe, cat-like body, his amber, hawk-like eyes, his wolf-like demeanor...

"You asked me why I didn't look into the future, Sirius," he breathed, pulling Sirius closer to himself. "My answer was a lie. It was you, you I saw, always. Always a dream, Sirius. A dream come true."
