MI: This is a really cute one-shot I was thinking of.
Yami: And it's short...
MI: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh!. That's right, I did the disclaimer.
Yugi: That's amazing!
Yami: Yeah, you never do the disclaimer...
MI: Whatever, on with the story. By the way, it's really short, too.
Note: I revised this again, on 3-01-06. It was driving me up the wall! (And revised again on 11-30-08.)
Yugi sat in his classroom, watching the teacher. "And for homework, do page 76 in your workbook." She concluded, just as the bell rang. Yugi walked out of the classroom, making his way out of the school. He looked left and right, before heading towards the Park.
'I can't do anything, so why go home? My parents are gone, and my Grandpa is picking me up in two days...' A boy, a few years older than him, sat down beside him while he was thinking.
"Hello." The boy said.
"Hi...Who are you?" Yugi asked, a bit startled by the boys sudden appearance.
"I'm Yami...just Yami." The boy said, giving up on trying to come up with a last name.
"Why are you around here...? I mean, you must have a home, right?" Yugi asked, seemingly confused.
"Yeah, I have a home...Just decided to get some fresh air, that's all." Yami said innocently.
"What's your name, kid?" Yami asked suddenly.
"I'm Yugi, Yugi Mouto..." He trailed off. He knew he wasn't supposed to talk to strangers, but this boy...He felt safe. Something then occurred to him.
"Hey Yami..." He trailed off, wondering how to ask what he wanted to.
"Why do you not have a last name?"He asked finally.
"...I don't know, actually..." Yami said sadly. Yami looked up and down the street, then turned back to Yugi. He noticed the boy was trying to hold back tears.
"...Are you okay?" He asked softly.
"No. My parents are gone, and my Grandpa can't come get me until day after tomorrow..." Yugi said. Yami frowned, embraced him in a loose hug.
"It's okay, once your grandpa comes to get you, I'm sure you'll be fine." Yami said.
"Thanks." Yugi said. Just then, a kid with blond hair came up.
"Hey Yugi!" The kid yelled. Yami looked up.
"Uh oh...I gotta go." He said. Yugi reached out, lightly touching his arm. Yami looked down at him with a questioning glance.
"...Will I ever see you again?" Yugi asked quietly. Despite the short greeting, he was already fond of his new friend.
"Yeah...maybe..." Yami said. Yugi looked down. Another question popped up, and he looked up again to ask, but Yami was gone. Yugi looked around, but didn't see him.
"Good bye, Yami..." Yugi whispered. Yami smiled at him from the tree he was sitting on.
"Good bye, Yugi...I will always be...Your Gaurdian Angel."
