Chapter Seven

Wrong end of the stick

DISCLAIMER – Nope afraid not.

AUTHOR NOTE – Sorry it took so long but better late then never. I just want to say something in Peter's defence. I hate him in the cannon but I don't believe he was like that when he was younger. I think he was dedicated to his friends until he left school so he suggests this with Remus's best intentions at heart…. Yep that's it. Enjoy!

THANK YOU'S –

SP-in-sirius-denial – Ok… here we go. Lily knows Sirius fancies Remus so she began pretending to flirt with Remus to make Sirius react and do something… Like he's been doing. She doesn't want Remus she just figured this was the best way to help them… That's all I can tell you without giving it away. Anyway glad you like the story so far.

Titou Moony – Glad you're liking the story, here's the next chapter as requested and don't worry things can only get better.

Yuki Bombay – Yes Irish Remus is great, I love him to pieces. Glad you like the story anyway.

Silver-sunn101 – Glad you like the story even with my mistakes. Oh well I was never good at grammar. Hope you enjoy the chapter, its Remmie's POV though perhaps not as you thought it would be!

AtiannalaWell perhaps they'll soon have to all work together, there will be a major thing but I've said too much all ready you'll have to be patient and see.

Emma Lupin – There will be lots of chances to Sirius jealous, don't you worry

Kaori7395 – Yeah Siri Remmie is a perfect combination, glad you like the story so much

Chimerical – Probably not quite what you expected but its happening slowly but surely

Sashimi – That will happen but not quite yet I'm afraid

AmayaYeah I think Siri won that as well. I kind of did what you suggested but you'll have to read it and let me know what you think.

ShuYou wanted more and you got it

Pixiedust-207 – Glad you're liking the story so much and the slang is South London slang, that's where I get it from

Summer rain of '89 – You'll see in this chapter though you may not like it

"Why did Lily do that for you Remus? You know the picnic and all" Peter asked suddenly, Remus shook himself out of his thoughts and turned to his friend. The picnic had ended and it was finally too dark to revise outside anymore. All three of them had been heading up the path towards the castle when Lily had been called away by a group of Ravenclaws who she was friends with leaving the two Marauders together.

"I don't know" Remus replied, sounding troubled as he ran a hand through his hair "But I wish she would…" his voice trailed off as he shook his head focusing troubled eyes on the ground.

"Don't tell me, you wish she would leave you alone" Remus glanced up at him and smiled slightly as he nodded

"She wasn't like this a few days ago but suddenly she's been doing really nice things for me, well she always did nice things for me but not to this degree, the most she did before was bring me a muffin perhaps, and that was only if her mother had sent some up in the post" Peter looked thoughtfully into the distance. The sun was beginning to set creating a gorgeous landscape of pinks, reds and oranges

"Perhaps she trying to make you or someone jealous" Peter remarked finally, Remus looked back at him with a startled look then raised an eyebrow in question even as he began to speak

"I don't think…"

"Hear me out" Peter interrupted him, he always found it easier to talk to Remus out of the other three because Remus seemed to listen to him and actually take in what he was saying. He took a deep breath and stuffed his hands into his pockets

"Look Remmie, I think Lily is up to something, she has that gleam in her eyes, you know the one she had that time she turned James's trouser invisible so it looked like he wasn't wearing any?" Remus grin became wicked looking as he slowly nodded his head

"Pete, who alive who was present on that day could forget that? I still think of James's face when I need to laugh" Peter grinned nodding his head and joining in Remus's clear laugh.

"It was funny" he conceded "Anyway the point is she's up to something and I think she's using you to make someone jealous"

"Who though? Who would be bothered to see her flirt with me?" he asked, Peter made a face as he thought then shrugged

"James or Sirius, both would be gutted as hell to see someone they like flirt with you" Remus eyes widened as he clicked his fingers

"I think you're right Pete" he remarked "The other day we were in the library and Sirius saw me and Lily together, she had her hand over mine and he did not look happy, in fact he looked as if he was going to flip out any second, he ran out of the library about two seconds later, probably because he fancies Lily" Peter looked unhappy at the news

"There you go then, Lily and Sirius obviously fancy each other but they don't want James to know because Sirius knows that James really likes Lily. Lily does too, but she still wants to make him jealous so she's using you, the other best friend to get the job done. She knows that Sirius would never forgive her if she did anything to upset his and James's friendship" an annoyed look came over Remus's face.

"I see," he remarked bitterly "So it's ok to use me, just not James" Peter shrugged, looking slightly worried.

"It might not be though, I honestly don't know because they tell me nothing" Remus laughed shaking his head at the comment.

"Don't worry Pete they tell me fuck all as well, at least we got each other right?" Peter nodded eagerly

"We'll look out for each other" he said, with a bright smile, Remus nodded

"It's not as if we need any of them, Sirius or Lily" he remarked more to himself "They can both get lost" he turned to Peter and spoke loudly "The pair of them aren't using me anymore" he remarked "They can find another idiot to use" Peter nodded again though his grey-blue eyes were moving frantically around as if the conversation hadn't gone as planned.

By this time they had entered the entrance hall, around them students and ghost were walking, chattering quietly among themselves since the curfew bell still hadn't rang yet..

"Want to have a game of chess?" Peter asked as they made their way up the stairs that led to the common room.

"Sure but I'm blacks ok?" Remus remarked, Peter grinned at him as he nodded

"Fine but I should warn you Remmie that I am damn good with the whites" This time Remus grinned at him

"And I should warn you Peter, that I am damn good with the blacks" they reached the fat lady by this time and told her the password before entering the warm room. Seated by the fire were both James and Sirius talking though they were now looking at the two other members and smiling at them, Peter grinned back and went to walk over to them before Remus grabbed his arm and spoke.

"Pete I don't want to sit with them right now, I'll say something I'll regret can we sit by the window?" Peter nodded, breathing out loudly

"They'll still come Remus, because you're there if it was just me…" he stopped but Remus didn't seem to notice the comment

"Thanks Peter, I owe you" Peter nodded and the pair of them made their way over to the window, watched by two sets of confused eyes, which glanced at each other before back again.

"Why are they playing over there?" James asked raising an eyebrow. Why aren't they sitting with us here? We saved them seats" he patted the seat next to him as if he was trying to prove that they did. Sirius frowned as he got to his feet

"There's only one way to find the answer isn't there Jim boy" he remarked distractedly his eyes on a certain amber eyed boy. James nodded getting to his feet as well and the pair of them made their way over to Remus and Peter who had literally just started their game.

"Hey" James said sitting by Peter, who shot him a quick look out the corner of his eyes before looking at Remus then back to his game "Why are both here?"

"Felt like it" Remus remarked, eyes still focused on the game. He couldn't believe the pair of them, if Peter was right and they had just been using him like that, why would they do that to him? "Your turn Pete" he remarked watching his pawn glide forward two spaces and take root there, looking round and raising a fist at the line of white pawns in front of him. He grinned, the set had belonged to his Dad and he couldn't help but be reminded of him doing the same thing at a football match once.

"Oh well if you preferred the window" Sirius said uncertainly, placing a hand on Remus shoulder, Remus knocked it ff with a frown

"Not when I'm playing chess Sirius" he remarked coolly. James and Sirius exchanged a quick look; they hadn't seen Remus this cut off from them since the first year when he was scared to let anyone close to him. It was his reaction to everything when he was hurt over something

"Are you ok Rem?" James asked briskly. Never being one to beat around the bush.

"Never better, the picnic was lovely as was the cheesecake" James raised an eyebrow and opened his mouth to speak

"Your turn Remus" Peter remarked cutting over James's response, he earned a glare for it before James continuing

"You don't seem fine" James remarked again

"I am though, just trying to concentrate on the game"

"Mind if we watch?" Sirius said

"Not at all" Remus said his voice chillier by the moment. James frowned

"See you upstairs then" he grabbed Sirius's arm and dragged him up the stairs and into the 5th year dorm room, slamming it behind them "What's his problem?" Sirius shrugged opting to remain silent for once. There had definitely been something wrong, even Peter was a bit off with them. It was as if they had done something wrong. Something to upset them both. Sirius sighed out loud and turned his gaze to Remus's bed area where the picture was on the side "Have you been listening to me?" James suddenly demanded causing Sirius to look at him

"Not really" he admitted, James rolled his eyes

"I said you have to find out what's wrong with Remmie ok?" Sirius nodded

"Fine, but tomorrow ok?" James nodded

"It better not have anything to do with Lily" Sirius nodded again as he sunk onto his bed, somehow he was pretty certain it had something to do with him and Lily, he just didn't know what.

A/N – There you go, poor Remus, doesn't know that it's the opposite way round. He wants Remmie not Lily. Peter was only trying to help so nope it not an elaborate scheme to break the Marauders up, he was honestly just trying to help his friend out. Anyhow please review but no flames please. I'll update soon

NEXT CHAPTER – Well what do you want to see? It's up to you, I have a few ideas but I'm not going to say anything in case it influences your own view!
