A/N-- Hey, lovely peoples! Yeah, you probably wondered why I took so long to post this. Umm...I guess you could sort of call me a perfectionist when it comes to writing. I just wanted to make sure everything fits well together. It probably still doesn't...but I tried my best. My apologies for keeping you guys waiting for a long time.
I like to take the time to thank everyone who reviewed at all. It gives me a sense of pride and it's a good feeling knowing people are reading something you created. So, thank you. :D Enjoy!
Chapter 7
The worst was over when she finally found the courage to tell her sisters what happened between Jason and her that night. How she got the painful scratches on her back when she fell from the limo. Of course, her sisters were very supportive and they stood by her. They knew it wasn't her fault, and that Jason was a bastard who needed to be punished for what he did.
"What am I going to do, Prue? I'm so scared," Phoebe stated embracing Prue like her life depended on it. Prue never felt like Phoebe needed her more in her life. After all, she was just a helpless young woman who was still trying to find her way. "We'll figure it out, sweetie. Don't you worry," Prue said praying silently that they will.
Meanwhile, Cole entered the hospital with roses in his hands. He looked worn out from the flight he had just gotten off of. The unsettling knot in his stomach kept him from sleeping, because he would have these horrible dreams that seem to haunt him.
"Phoebe Halliwell?" Cole asked the nurse at the front desk. "4th floor, room 416," She answered quickly. Cole thanked her and made his way to the elevator.
Back upstairs, Phoebe had no idea that he was coming and Prue was busy trying to get Phoebe to eat something. "Piper, I give up. You try," Prue said sitting down on the chair by the window. Piper sat up as she proceeded to, but said, "Maybe I don't have to."
Phoebe and Prue turned to look at the door to see who Piper was staring at. Phoebe and Cole's eyes met from across the room. "Maybe we should leave. Come on, Prue," Piper insisted. "But she still has to eat," Prue protested. Piper took Prue by the arm and said firmly, "Come on, Prue." "Nice to see you again, Cole," Piper said as they passed through the door.
As Cole made his way over to her, Phoebe's heart was racing. The thought of hugging him and kissing him ran through her mind. For some reason, though, she couldn't do it. She wanted him far away as possible. Perhaps, she was afraid that if he came any closer, he would know what happened to her. Fear began to consume her once again.
Seeing her in that hospital bed made Cole realized how badly she needed him by her side. Phoebe was so fragile, and he should've have never let her go. Why did he let her convince him that she was ready to fly on her own? The bruises and bandages that were visible made Cole flinched at the pain she must be in.
"Hey, baby. How are you doing?" Cole asked laying the bouquet of roses on her lap. Phoebe forced herself to give him a half-way decent smile. "I'm sorry I took so long to get here. Don't be mad at me, ok?" Cole asked. Phoebe nodded without a word. She really didn't know what to say to him or how to say it. Seeing him again after the incident really put some uncertainty inside Phoebe's heart.
Cole's hand went up to caress the bruises on her face hoping that somehow they could disappear. "I'm fine," Phoebe tried to convince him as she took his hand away. Cole felt as if she was trying to push him away. Something is definitely wrong here, and it killed Cole not to know.
"Refusing to eat, I see?" Cole asked trying to lighten the atmosphere. It was too tense and he didn't like it. Everything between them were never too tense. It was always light and breathable. When Phoebe didn't say anything, he decided it was time to ask what happened.
"I heard from Prue that you were hurt, but she never told me why or by who. So, I was wondering if you could maybe tell me what happened?" Cole asked gently sitting on the edge of the bed next to her. The mood suddenly changed, and so did the atmosphere. Cole felt that what she was about to tell him was going to be painful, but he was mentally prepared. No matter what it is, he has to be strong for Phoebe.
Phoebe looked away for a long while as tears formed in her eyes. Cole attempted to embrace her, but she pushed him away gently. Phoebe struggled to hold back the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes. "Baby, what's wrong? Please, tell me," Cole pleaded holding her hands in his.
"I made a mistake, Cole. A horrible one," Phoebe started to say. "Whatever it is, I'm sure we can fix it. We always do," Cole said comforting her. Phoebe looked at him and wonder how he can be so understanding. Most men that Phoebe have met are just so materialistic, but Cole has all this money in the world. Yet, all he wants is her no matter what. Not that Phoebe isn't grateful for him, it's just overwhelming to know that.
Cole held Phoebe's soft and tiny hands in his the whole time she told him what happened and how she ended up where she was.
It wasn't easy for Cole to bare, but he had to maintain his cool for her. He felt as if he could kill someone with his bare hands, because his anger was tearing him up inside out. His blood was boiling out of control under the surface of his skin. Cole would occasionally kiss her hand as she spoke, and encourage her to continue. He knew she needed someone to talk to and he was willing to listen.
He didn't want her to think or feel that this was her fault in any way, because it's not. "Cole, I'm sorry I didn't listen to you. Then, maybe none of this would happen," Phoebe said feeling so guilty. Cole kissed her forehead and said, "Don't be sorry, Phoebe. It's not your fault." Phoebe finally let go of the guilt she was feeling inside her heart to embrace Cole .
"I love you, Phoebe," Cole said adoringly. She felt that warmness and safeness whenever she was in his arms. She wanted to hold onto him forever. "Cole, will you stay with me? I know my sisters have been exhausted," Phoebe said softly; just enough for him to hear. "Anything for you, sweetie. I'll go tell them," Cole said turning to leave, but Phoebe caught his hand and jerked him back. "Please, don't go. Don't leave me," Phoebe pleaded.
"Okay," Cole said after a short pause. "I won't leave you," Cole added holding her against him. The sisters walked into the room. "Hey," They greeted the both. "Hi. Phoebe thought it'd be nice for you two to maybe go home and get some rest for a day. Obviously, you look tired. So, don't worry. I'll take care of her," Cole said. Phoebe nodded.
"Are you sure?" Prue asked. Phoebe answered with a nod, and her sisters embraced her. "I'll see you guys soon," Phoebe assured. They left knowing Phoebe was safe with Cole.
Cole's hand stroked her hair gently and asked, "Are you sure your not hungry?" "I am, but the food makes me want to vomit," Phoebe answered. "You want me to run out and get something better?" Cole asked. "No, it's okay. I'll survive another day without the luxury of fine dining," Phoebe stated recalling all their romantic dinners they would have together.
"Okay, well...I will go down to the cafeteria and get you some soup. How's that?" Cole questioned. "It's better than an empty stomach," Phoebe replied. Cole kissed her forehead and told her he'll be right back.
Slowly, Phoebe adjusted herself so she could lay down for awhile. The pain from moving kept her at an uneasy position, but it had to do. She just wanted to shut her eyes for a bit; until Cole comes back anyways. She never meant to fall asleep dreaming of a dream that invades her every thought.
Cole came back from the cafeteria with a bowl of soup on the tray that he prayed wouldn't tip over. As soon as Cole sat the tray down, he saw Phoebe tossing and turning in her sleep. Crying out loud, and mumbling things. Her motions alerted Cole that she was having a bad dream.
"Phoebe...Phoebe! Wake up, sweetie. It's okay..." Cole shook her gently. Phoebe's eyes opened and they were filled with fear. Fear that seemed to swallow her whole. He never saw her like that before. So weak, so afraid, and yet determined. He just wanted so much to make it all better.
"It's okay...I'm here now," Cole comforted. "Cole! It was so scary...I couldn't see anything b-b-because it was so blurry. But I felt..." Phoebe paused. "I felt..." She couldn't finish her sentence because the lump in her throat grew bigger; blocking her ability to produce sound. "Phoebe, shhh...You're safe. Now, can you please eat this soup for me?" Cole asked pushing it closer to her.
Phoebe inched away from it, because her appetite was just ruined by the dream that seemed to haunt her every waking moment. "No, I can't eat right now..." Phoebe said softly. Cole took her hand and sat down next to her on the bed.
"How about I feed you instead?" Cole asked with an encouraging smile. Phoebe calmed down a bit knowing that he'll go out of his way for her. Cole picked up the bowl of warm soup, and began to feed her spoonfuls.
Cole was thinking to himself when he was feeding her. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for her, and he'll go out of his way to do it too. He loved her so much that words couldn't even describe it anymore. Only the depth of the ocean's deepest end can fully express his feelings for her.
That's why when this whole thing gets figured out, they're going to get married as soon as possible. Then, Cole is definitely getting her out of the city for at least two weeks on a remote island. Where everything would be them and the beach.
Nothing else would seem to matter...
