Once again, I do not own the Matrix nor any of these characters. I just love the movies and have a big imagination. Thank you.
Zion. Home. He loved the way he felt when the Nebuchadnezzar docked. Loved the way it felt to arrive. Loved the way she was always waiting for him. The down time of the Logos overlapped a few days with that of the Neb so they were always able to spend a few days with each other. He loved the way they got to spend time together even though they didn't share a ship. Why waste the leadership? For a small woman she was tough as nails and didn't take any crap off of anyone. She was strong and determined and one of the most skilled soldiers he had ever seen. Yes, she made a fine captain.
He walked slowly down the ramp scanning the crowd for her. Maybe she didn't know they were coming in. They were a few days early.
"Dozer, if anyone needs me, I'll be with Niobe. We should be ready to go in 72 hours," he ordered.
He continued on down the catwalk to the elevator. He was anxious to speak with her. He had news.
"Niobe? Are you here?"
"I'm here. You're early. I wasn't expecting you till the end of the week," she replied.
"We needed to recharge early. I have to get back out as soon as possible. Niobe, I think I've found the One."
She sighed, "Morpheus, I need to talk to you. It's important. Do you think you could focus on us for a few minutes?"
"What's wrong?"
"We are. I didn't want this to turn out this way. But I guess I have no choice. All you ever talk about since your last visit to the Oracle is finding the One. Why you persist in believing that fortuneteller I will never understand. There is no way this war is going to be ended by anyone other than those who have spent their lives fighting it. You used to have faith in yourself, not some prophecy. I need more than that. I need someone who doesn't live in a dream world."
He was speechless. She was right of course. He was preoccupied with his quest. He had never once thought to stop and think of her feelings. Just always assumed she understood. He expected her to understand. It was then that he realized he couldn't. He couldn't expect someone to always be waiting on him. Not her. She deserved better. The Oracle was right when she said this would be a hard path to walk. He could give it up and stay, but he would never be happy. His faith in the prophecy would keep him going. He had to believe that. He did believe that. Maybe some day she would feel the same.
He smiled, apologized, and turned for the door.
"Morpheus, you're a good man. I admire you for your faith. Good luck."
"Thank You, Niobe."
He headed back to the Neb. Hopefully they would be able to leave in 36 hours. He had work to do.
