Chapter One
Paul hit the button on the answering machine as he sat down on the bottom step to remove his shoes.
"You have one new message..." said the recording "Thursday December 2nd 2004, 10:32 am" the answering machine continued. The next voice he heard was a shock. The person whom he never expected to hear from again. "Paul it's Stephanie are you there?" she began. "C'mon Paul if your there pick up." there was a pause for a few moments. "Paul damn it! Would you stop being so freaking childish and answer your phone this is important!" another pause. "Fine give me a call if you can put your ridiculous Neanderthal pride aside long enough this is important."
"What the hell does she want now?" wondered Paul allowed to himself. He picked up the phone and dialed her number. Not really knowing what to expect.
Stephanie rolled over and looked at the alarm clock on the night stand. It was somewhere on the other side of midnight and her phone was ringing off the hook.
"Hello?" she asked still somewhere in between sleep and reality.
"What was so important?"
"Who is this?" she asked sitting up in bed and turning the light on. Her 3 month old daughter Promise was asleep next to her in the bassinet.
"Paul...who the hell do you think it would be?"
"You don't have to be so nasty..."
"Look Stephanie this isn't a social call you said there was something important that you needed to tell me now what is it."
"Have you opened your mail yet?"
"Have I what?!...No! I've been home five minutes, would you just tell me so I can get to bed some of us did have a match tonight."
"Well check your mail there should be a letter there form the court house."
Paul walked over to the pile of mail that was on the floor next to front door picked it up and sorted through it. "Yea it's here"
"Open it...your in for a surprise."
Paul tore open the envelope...his heart hit the floor and he was rendered speechless.
"Are you there?" Stephanie questioned
"Yea...Yea I'm here, she's mine?"
"That's what it says doesn't it? Proven By a 99.9 certainty."
