Before I begin this chapter, I want to thank everyone for reviewing. I've been working on this story for a long time and I hoped people would like it.

Now, therealxenocide asked about the situation between Matt and Melina, and I'll have that explained at some point in the story, just be patient. Oh, and with the chaperone thing, it better be realistic because last year I went on a cruise with a friend and our chaperone was a freshman in college (my friend's sister) and her boyfriend was also there, so I didn't see that much of a difference.

Chapter Four

Invite to The Movies

Later that night when Lizzie and Gordo returned, they found Matt and Miranda in the same room. Lizzie practically panicked but then Gordo calmed her down and reluctantly agreed to let them sleep while she went to sleep in the room next door with Gordo. She did make it clear, however, that she would not let this happen again because it would be dangerous. Gordo rolled his eyes and agreed.

The next morning, Lizzie woke up before everyone and couldn't get back to bed. This thing between Miranda and Matt was bothering her. All sorts of thoughts ran into her head, like their friendship wouldn't be the same. Also, she was fully aware that Miranda was determined to find someone on this ship. She just didn't want that person to be her brother. Sure, he had changed in the past four years, but he was still her brother and imagining her brother and Miranda together disgusted her.

Lizzie woke Gordo up to go get some breakfast, leaving Matt and Miranda still asleep in the girls' room still sleeping. "Maybe we should wake them up," Lizzie suggested."

Gordo glared, "Lizzie, its early in the morning. Just let it go right now!"

"Oh, fine!" Lizzie said as she marched off to the dining hall. Gordo was very tempted not to follow, but decided he didn't want to get on her bad side and that she would probably cool off as soon as breakfast was over.

In the meantime, Miranda and Matt slept about an hour later. Matt was the first to wake up, and he woke up confused. Where was he? Ahh! Then he remembered the day before and he couldn't stop himself from smiling. As far as the rest of this boat was concerned, he was Miranda's boyfriend. His goal by the end of this cruise was to have Miranda agree with that. The way he saw it, these weren't unusual terms. All they had to do was be around each other and occasionally hold hands. He thought he was going this to help Miranda with that Blair person in the first place.

A few minutes after Matt woke up, so did Miranda and when she looked over and saw Matt, she almost screamed, but Matt stopped her, "Where's Lizzie?" she asked.

"No idea," he said.

Miranda yawned, "What time is it?"

Miranda looked at the clock on the side table, "It's a little after ten."

Miranda nodded as she pulled off her covers and slowly stood up from her bed.

"Did you sleep well?"

Miranda shrugged. Not that she minded talking to Matt, she just wished yesterday hadn't happened. "I'm going to go take a shower."

"Yeah," Matt said, getting up from the bed and heading to his own room, "hey! After we get ready for the day, want to go get something to eat and find Lizzie and Gordo?"

Miranda sighed. She didn't have much of a choice, did she?

Miranda and Matt got ready for the day and met eventually met back up and went to get something to eat. In the meantime, Lizzie and Gordo had finished breakfast and after Gordo requested it, they went somewhere to talk privately.

"Lizzie," he said, "About this Miranda and Matt business."

Lizzie knew exactly where this conversation was going. She decided to just let him talk.

"What they do is really none of our business. It looks like they are in a relationship now and you are just going to have to grin and bear it, no matter how much you loathe the situation."

"I know but what if their relationship fails? This could ruin the friendship I have with Miranda."

Gordo sighed, "Lizzie, don't you remember we were in the same situation when we started dating."

"What are you talking about?"

"We were scared if we broke up we would loose our friendship."

"But we haven't broken up."

"I know, but if we do, what's going to happen to our friendship?"

Lizzie thought about this for a minute, "I don't know."

"Well, you also don't know what's going to happen to Matt and Miranda. It may just be a fling, or it may become serious."

"What are you trying to say, Gordo?"

"I'm trying to say that instead of worrying so much about the two of them, you should try your best to show that you support them like they support us. You don't know what's going to happen, but you have to hope for the best. It's like us."

"Yeah, but," Lizzie said, "He's my brother and she's my best friend. When they break up, I'm stuck in the middle."

"The same could be said for Miranda with you and me."

Lizzie considered this for a minute. She never thought about it that way. But still, it bothered her to know that her brother and her best friend were involved. But then again, maybe Miranda felt that way when she and Gordo started dating. All of this was something to think about.

"A penny for your thoughts?" Gordo offered.

Lizzie sighed, "Mind if I just think about it for a while?"

"Sure," Gordo said, "Go right ahead."

"Gordo," she said, "You know I love you, right?"

Gordo smiled, "Of course. But when you overreact about something, maybe you should make sure its worth overreacting about."

"Do you love me?"

Gordo rolled his eyes, "Yes. I love you."

"Good."

"So, want to see if Matt and Miranda are up yet?"

"Okay."

They held hands on the way back to the rooms, but only to discover they were empty.

To Matt and Miranda's disgusted displeasure, as they were in the dining hall, they ran into Nev. Actually, to be technical, Nev ran into them. She invited herself to sit down at their table and she greeted them with a cheery, "hey!"

"Hi," the supposed couple said back, wondering what this girl was up to.

"So, what's on your agenda today?" she asked.

Matt and Miranda exchanged glances and shrugged, "Don't know," Matt said.

"Well, if you aren't doing anything, why don't you two go with Blair and me to the movie theatre today."

"I thought they only showed movies at night," Miranda said.

"Well, they do to the general public, but since my dad owns a large portion of this cruise line, we get special privileges. So are you up for the movie?"

Miranda was about to say she wasn't sure, but Matt beat her and said, "Sure. We'd love to come."

"You would?" Nev said.

"Yeah. What time does it start?"

"Why don't we meet on one of the benches at the stern of the boat at say, two?"

They agreed and Nev went off, saying she had to find Blair to tell him the good news.

As soon as Nev had left the room, Matt turned to Miranda and said, "You know, somehow. I'm not surprised that Nev is rich."

Miranda rolled her eyes. She wished she never met Blair. She wished Matt didn't step in and say something, but he did and she couldn't change the past. "Let's find Lizzie and Gordo," Miranda said, and stood up before he could say anything to object."

In the meantime, Lizzie and Gordo were hanging around in Lizzie's room waiting to hear from Matt and Miranda, "Gordo, I'm bored," Lizzie whined.

Gordo sat down on her bed and pulled Lizzie into his lap, "What do you suggest that we do?"

"I don't know," she said, accepting the kisses he gave her on her neck, "Find …something to do." She was going to suggest they find Matt and Miranda, but quickly saved herself, knowing that Gordo would give her some type of lecture.

"Well," Gordo said, "The theatre doesn't open in the day, I'm pretty sure there is some event going on in the recreational hall. We could go to the pool."

Lizzie made a face. She didn't want to go to the pool. She wanted to see Miranda and Matt and for them to tell her that last night was a mistake. She understood where Gordo was coming from in the speech he made, but still it bothered her.

Gordo sighed, "Let's wait for Matt and Miranda and see if they want to do anything."

"Okay," Lizzie said and she got off of Gordo's lap and went underneath the covers of her bed.

"You feeling okay?"

Lizzie yawned, "Yeah, I'm just really tired. Wake me up when there get here, okay?"

"Yeah, okay," Gordo said and he got off from the bed and moved to the area with the chairs and table. Knowing Lizzie brought a deck of cards, he got them out and started playing solitare as Lizzie slept.

A few minutes later, Miranda came in, saw Gordo and smiled, "Hey."

"Hi," Gordo said, standing up and waking up Lizzie, "Lizzie, Miranda's here."

Lizzie slowly opened her eyes and saw Miranda, "Hey," she said, still in bed. She looked around, and noticed there was no Matt, "Where's Matt?"

"In his room," Miranda said, sitting on her own bed, "what are you guys up to today?"

"Well, we were waiting for you two to show up and see if we wanted to do something together," Lizzie said.

Miranda bit her bottom lip, "When?"

Lizzie yawned, "I don't know. This afternoon?"

"I'm sorry, Lizzie," Miranda said, "But we already have plans."

"Really?" Lizzie asked, "like what?"

"Matt and I are going to watch a movie."

"Gordo, you told me that the theatre was only open at night."

"That's what the magazine said," Gordo said.

"I know, but Matt and I are going to a special screening."

"How?"

"Remember those people at our table, Nev and Blair? Well, Nev's father owns this cruise line and she invited us."

"Ooh. Can we come, too?" Lizzie asked.

"Nope. Sorry. It's an invite only thing."

"Oh," Lizzie frowned.

"Anyway, all four of us should definitely do something tonight. The whole thing should be over by five."

"Sure," Lizzie said.

At this point, Matt came in, "What's going on? Is this some party I wasn't invited to?" He put his arm around Miranda and Lizzie turned away.

"What time is it?" Lizzie asked.

"Around lunchtime. Want to get some lunch?"

"Sure," everyone agreed and they went to get some lunch.

~

After lunch, it was time for Matt and Miranda to go meet Nev and Blair at the stern of the boat. They exchanged their "see-ya-laters" and headed off to where they were supposed to meet. They were a little early, so Nev and Blair were not there yet.

"Okay," Miranda said, wanting to go over the guidelines before they did this, "remember no kissing."

"What if they start kissing?"

"We'll just have to deal with it and be extremely uncomfortable," Miranda said, shuttering at the though.

"But won't they think…"

"NO! I said no, okay??? And I mean it!" Miranda said, and right as she said it, Nev and Blair showed up.

"Whoa. What are you two arguing about?"

"Miranda—" Matt started, but Miranda interrupted.

"Matt wants to get a tattoo and I don't want him to."

Blair shrugged, "What's wrong with tattoos? I have one."

"You do?" Miranda asked.

"Yeah," he said, "on my ankle."

Blair showed his ankle to Matt and Miranda and on it was a tattoo of a symbol in another language. "It means 'air' in Celtic," Blair explained.

After sitting there for a few more seconds, they got up and headed to the movie theatre. There were a few other people in there, but not many. Blair, Nev, Miranda, and Matt sat near the back and whispered until the lights dimmed. They were playing "Casablanca."

About halfway into the movie, Miranda glanced over and noticed they weren't paying attention to the movie. They were paying attention to each other. They exchanged a few kisses and kiss after kiss, Miranda could feel herself getting more uncomfortable. She felt alone right now. She didn't have anyone to turn to keep her company except Matt, and that's not what she wanted.

Miranda looked over at Matt. He was so into the movie that he was oblivious to the fact that Miranda was uncomfortable. Miranda decided to let it go. She didn't have to look at them. This was a good movie. She would act mature about this. She would concentrate on the movie.

But she couldn't stop looking back at the pair. They looked happy and she wasn't. She wanted someone to do that with. She wanted someone to make her happy. She looked over at Matt and she wasn't sure if she was desperate, but Matt was starting to look tempting. It all came down to her wanting to be normal and for the rest of the movie, she became determined to do something she thought she would never agree to do. It didn't make sense, but it was a mixture of curiosity, resent, and feeling lonely, but she wanted to kiss Matt.

So, there she was, the last scene was approaching and she was starting to convince herself that this was stupid. She didn't have to do this. But then she looked at Blair and Nev who were still focusing on each other and she had had it. She turned to Matt, whispered his name, he looked over, and she said, "don't you dare ask why I'm going to do what I'm about to do."

Matt gave her a confusing look, but before he could say anything, she interrupted him with a kiss. It was small and tender, and although Matt was confused, he didn't object. The kiss deepened and while Miranda couldn't believe what she was doing, she found herself enjoying the kiss. She didn't have time to analyze that fact, though, as she continued kissing him and it wasn't until she felt Matt's arms on her back that she realized what exactly she was doing. She let go immediately, looked at him briefly, freaked out and ran outside of the theatre.

Did she really just kiss Matt McGuire and enjoy it?
