Prologue: Reporting the Find

The Anchorage Herald, September 30th 2004

The Mystery of the Arctic Warrior continues.

New evidence confirms story of sole survivor.

On September 11th 2002, Captain Sean Murphy and his crew returned to Anchorage with the salvaged ship "Mercia Mei". They departed from port the following morning, leaving no clues as to their expected destination. Rumours at the Salvagers bar "Scally's" claim that the crew of the Arctic Warrior departed in search of a mysterious ship, the location of which was apparently given to them by a weather patrol Pilot. The pilot in question, Mr Jack Ferriman, is not listed on the employee register for any of the weather patrols, American or Canadian. Stories circulated for some time that the crew had become involved in illegal activities, but no proof has ever been found to confirm or deny these rumours.

Several weeks after the departure of the Arctic Warrior, a single member of her crew was discovered in the Barring Strait, barely alive. She attempted to halt the departure of the cruise liner which had rescued her, claiming the ship was in great danger. She gave a statement to police, claiming that her tug had been sunk during a salvage operation, and that her crew had been murdered by Jack Ferriman, whom she claimed was a "Soul Collector". It was decided that prolonged exposure to the elements and enforced solitude during her ordeal had caused her to lose a solid grip on reality. No evidence presented itself to either prove or disprove her story. While never formally implicated in the disappearance of the Arctic Warrior crew, Maureen Epps was deemed by a court to be a possible danger to herself, and was committed to the Jameson Institute. Authorities issued a statement at the time, saying that they did not believe she had been involved in the disappearance of the Arctic Warrior, her crew or the mysterious Jack Ferriman.

The following men are still listed as missing:

Captain Sean Patrick Murphy

First Mate Anthony Greer

Salvager "Munder" (birth name unknown)

Salvager "Dodge" (birth name unknown)

Engineer Alexis Santos

Pilot Jack Ferriman (pilot status unconfirmed)

The disappearance of the Arctic Warrior is a mystery that has yet to be solved, and is fast becoming a legend (or perhaps 'ghost story'...) amongst salvage crews the world over...

However
, on September 28th 2004, a discovery was made which seems to confirm the wild story told by Ms. Epps at the time of her rescue. On a deserted beach less than a mile from the main docks at Anchorage, a journal was found. It appeared to have been washed up during a particularly savage storm, which swept through the area on September 26th, exactly 2 years and 14 days after the Warrior departed for the last time. The journal was wrapped tightly in a plastic bag and had been protected from the elements. It was a rare find indeed, for the journal belonged to Captain Sean Murphy. And what was written in those pages has astounded all those who have read it, for it appears that Maureen Epps may have been telling something close to the truth, about the whereabouts of her crew.

The following are excerpts from the journal of Sean Murphy, and what you are about to read will astound you as much as it has astonished both the authorities and the Salvage community...
