Forgiven With a Kiss

By Crystella Shan

Disclaimer: The wonderful JKR owns the characters. I'm just playing with them for a while.

A/N: This came to me at 2am in the morning. I just had to write it. Hmm…Kinda like this piece too…Enjoy.(I hope.) And after that, REVIEW!(Pretty pretty please?)

She remembers.

It was the first and last time then, when he kissed her. The snow fell around them in little flakes.

It had been chaste, just a brush of chilled lips against hers, and she forgot everything that she was about to say.

So cold.

And she'd been lost. Lost in his eyes when he kissed her, his gaze unwavering, a never-ending gray that always seemed to enchant her, captivate her. She couldn't breathe all of a sudden.

Oh god, she could drown in his eyes.

But he kept looking at her after pulling away, as if words weren't good enough and the silence was the only way to tell her what he wanted to say, as if she'd be able to read the message written in his eyes.

Malfoy, I-I don't understand. Wha-...Why?

He smiled then, almost mockingly, just a slight upward curve of the corners of his lips.

Know-it-all Granger doesn't get it this time, does she?

He reached out to tuck her hair behind her ear, his fingers lightly brushing the skin on her cheeks. His hand was surprisingly warm despite being out in the cold for so long and she almost leaned into his touch.

It's so warm. Burning, burning my-skin-don't-everstoptouchingme.

He spoke. So softly it was almost a whisper, a breath in the wind. Then he turned away, walking into the castle for the graduation dinner, leaving her standing alone in the frost.

Two simple words.

She understood now.

He was going to get the Dark Mark after the Graduation Feast.

And he's not going to stop them.

She didn't say anything then. There was nothing left to say.

But he never looked back to see her bring a hand absently to her lips as the snow fell around her in little flakes.

"I'm sorry."
