Disclaimer: Nope, don't own Sasuke or Itachi. But the kitty-cat in the fanfic is based on a cat I used to have.
Author's Notes: Sorta just a nice little thing that happens between the brothers before everything went wrong. It's alternate universe, and is only meant to be a cute fanfic.

Lucky Cat
The shinobi section of Konoha Village was somewhat large. The beautiful calico feline, her belly swollen with the kittens a neighbor tom had gotten her with, padded quietly from shadow to shadow. The front steps were empty as the mother kitty-cat cautiously poked her nose out of the relative shade behind a trashcan.
About to enter the building, looking for edibles, the calico leaped backwards just in time as a dog snarled and viciously lunged for her. Even heavy with kittens, the calico's fright gave her enough momentum to race off the step and throw herself in the direction of a gate made from wire.
She climbed up the wire, and eluded the dog's sharp teeth and putrid breath by dropping onto a trash can lid. Getting her breath back, she realized she was merely feet away from a young man, sitting on wooden steps of his family's extensive house.
Limping carefully, her previous encounter making her cautious, the mother cat had almost made it to safety when a shout froze her in mid-step and hands, young and inexperienced at handling felines, hoisted her roughly into the air.
"Itachi!" The little boy yelled, as he carried his catch to the raven-haired shinobi the calico had seen sitting on the front stoop. "Look what I found!"
The young man looked up, obviously expecting to see some rock or something worthless that his brother had found. A smile broke over his face as he caught sight of the calico caught fast in the little boy's arms.
"Why, it's a calico cat!" He reached out and rubbed the mother kitty behind the ears. Not wanting to press her luck, but desperate for food and a place to sleep, the kitty-cat produced a pitiful little meow.
"Please, brother, can we keep him?" the little boy pleaded as he dropped that cat into his brother's lap.
"It's a she, Sasuke. All calicos, these three colored cats, are female, and they're good luck too. Yes, it will do us good to have a bit of luck around the house." Itachi stroked the mother kitty's back and sides; the cat rewarded him with a low, throaty purr.
"Yes!" The boy leaped to his feet and disappeared into the house to brag to his mother. As soon as he was out of sight, the Itachi looked down and smiled to the cat.
"Ah, you are wonderfully lucky. You've come to the right place, and with kittens too!" The delight showed in his voice, for a warm comfort next to his brother at night would be a very welcome thing. He picked up the cat and took her inside to Sasuke.
As the screen door slammed shut, a warm, friendly purrrr slipped out into the warm summer breeze. It was the purring of a lucky cat. A very lucky cat, indeed.
