The next morning, Kate had woken earlier than usual on account of a nightmare. She had dreamt about her old boyfriend, Bobby. She had dreamt about him almost every night since she had realized her feelings for Jack. In her dream, Bobby arrived on the island and killed Jack. The minute the dagger went into Jack's heart she woke up. This had gone on for almost 2 weeks. She found herself gasping for breath as she looked around and saw no sign of her evil past. She then laid back down and covered herself with the cloth she had found a couple nights before. She shut her eyes and saw another figure she recognized. It was her best friend Elanor. She saw Elanor in their old dorm at college. Elanor was crying with the phone dangling from the desk above her head. Why was she crying? Kate jumped in her sleep as she heard the figure say, "What do you mean you can't track down the airline? She left Australia 13 hours ago!" She jumped again. Instead this time, a warm hand touched her arm and shook her. She knew the texture of the hand for she had touched it many times before while he had been sleeping. She heard Jack say, "Kate, wake up".
She opened her eyes and saw his gorgeous face leaning over her. She sat up sweating with tears running down her face.
"Kate, are you okay? What happened?" Jack looked at her with a worried expression. He dabbed her face with a wet cloth.
"Elanor…she heard about the crash. She was crying. And Bobby, he killed you." She felt his face and flung her arms around his neck. She squeezed him tightly and didn't let go.
"Kate, what are you talking about? Who's Elanor? And I'm still alive. You just had a nightmare. A really bad nightmare." He looked at her with a smile.
He put a bowl of water in her hands and said "Come on, we are going to go get some more fruit today."
He held out his hand and smiled.
She looked at him and took his hand, She smiled and they left the caves.
