The Art of Misunderstanding
It was almost midnight. The birds had long fallen into a deep slumber, safe within their nests, their wings encircling their precious children. The moon was at its highest point, sending its rays to the world below. Stars glimmered in the sky like faraway diamonds. The night air was still and the world seemed to be empty.
The Comodin's submarine, Jane, was on autopilot, moving slowly and silently through the ocean. It was silent throughout the ship; everyone was already deep in their dreams.
That is…
All but two people.
"…"
"…"
"…"

"So…"

"Hm…"
"Yes…"
"Mmm…"
"Ah…"
"Um…"
"Yeah…"
"Right…"
"So…"
"Hm…?"
"Why did you call me out?"
"Right…that…"
There was a pause. And then something uttered so softly, it was almost drowned away in the air.
"You can't die…"
"Yes…You can't either…"
"Hm…"
"Yeah…"
"So…"
"So…"
"Is that it?"
"Yeah…"
"Mm…Good bye, then."
"Yes…good bye…"

"Lisa, Lisa!" Yu called the next morning. "Guess what I saw last night!!"
"What did you see?" Lisa said, humoring the young boy.
"I saw Makenshi and Kaze!" Yu announced.
"It was a meeting between forbidden lovers!" Ai squealed.
"Oh really?" Lisa said, smiling. I've let them watch too much anime… "I don't think Kaze likes Makenshi that way."
"Really?" Ai pouted.
Lisa nodded.
"How boring…" Ai sulked, slinking away with her brother trailing after her.
"Makenshi and Kaze. What an absurd thought!" Lisa laughed. She paused. "Then again…"

"Have you heard the rumor?" Cid asked Nav casually as he navigated the oceans.
Nav grumbled something under his breath. "How couldn't I? It's spreading through this submarine like wildfire." Nav muttered.
Cid arched a blond eyebrow. "Are you jealous?"
Nav glared outside. "What does Makenshi have that I don't?"

Elsewhere, Makenshi sneezed.
"I hope I'm not getting sick…"
