Story of a Girl: Chapter ONE
Disclaimer: I do not own Degrassi:TNG, or any of the regular characters; just the new ones that you don't recognize.
SUMMARY: Kayla McCallister is new at Degrassi, and doesn't understand why Jay's interested in her. Meanwhile, JT is trying hard to rebuild his friendship with a depressed Toby.
"Kayla, I'm sure you'll love it here at Degrassi," Mr. Radditch told the new student, fifteen-year-old Kayla McCallister. She just nodded.
"Well, this will be your homeroom, Mr. Simpson's Media Immersions class," he said, knocking on the door. Mr. Simpson answered. "This is your new student, Kayla McCallister."
Mr. Simpson smiled and greeted Kayla. She looked towards the ground.
"Well, the announcements are about to come on," Mr. Simpson said after he had shut the door, "so why don't you just take a seat? There's an empty seat…Next to Jay," Mr. Simpson said, raising an eyebrow.
Kayla sat down at the empty chair. Jay hadn't heard her come in, or his name, since his headphones were on. He was typing an email to someone.
He took his headphones off when he realized that someone had sat down next to him. "Who are you?" he asked. The first time she said her name, he didn't hear. "Kayla," she said louder. "Oh. I'm Jay," he said and put his headphones back on.
JT ran up to Toby when the bell had rang at the end of the day. "What's up, Tobes?" he asked.
Toby shrugged. "Hey, stop. What's wrong?" JT demanded.
"Nothing's wrong, JT. What do you want me to say? You've ignored me the past year, now Manny gets onto you and you try to be my best friend again. It doesn't work like that," Toby said angrily.
"Hey! It's not my fault! You always wanted to talk about anime and all that stupid crap. Then you became friends with that psy-with Rick."
"Is this your idea of an apology?" Toby said, as he turned around and glared at JT.
"No! I mean, yes…Look, give me another chance, okay? I'm sorry. I shouldn't have left you like that. You were my first friend here."
"That only meant something until you got popular. In 7th and 8th grade, JT, you were the same dork as I was. Then you got in the 9th grade and all of a sudden you're in Paige's group? You thought you were God."
"Oh come on, Tobes. God?"
"A)-Don't call me Tobes. B)-You missed the point. You're an idiot, JT. See you later, PAL."
