The First Cut is the Deepest

Chapter 9

His hands were shaking as he lifted the latch on his trunk and pulled out an emerald sweater with intricate lace stitching around the neck and sleeves. He walked over to the closed door, which, on the back of it, supported a full length mirror.

As he looked at himself in the mirror, he lifted the sweater over his head, pushing his arms through the sleeves, and fitting it snugly around his waist.

Tonight was Friday night. The night Draco Malfoy had planned on taking Harry to Hogsmeade. Harry wasn't sure how to dress, so he wore something nice, yet comfortable. That way, he couldn't go wrong, right?

Harry was so nervous about tonight, beads of sweat were dripping off of his forehead in little rows, and the sweaters warmth wasn't helping the matter much.

As he was getting his last shoe on, there was a knock at the door to his dorm room. He quickly slid on his shoe and walked over to the door. He grasped the door handle, but couldn't turn it. He wasn't sure if he wanted what lay behind the closed door. If he wanted all of the exposure; passion; truth. Yet, Harry slowly turned the knob and backed away from the door, revealing a head of bushy brown hair, tight jeans, and a red hooded sweatshirt.

As Hermione walked into the dorm, Harry saw that a sheet of paper, which looked like a flyer, was held in one of her hands. She looked up from the paper to Harry, eyeing him up and down. As she saw how nice he was dressed, a smile spread onto her lips.

"So, what are you so dressed up about?" she asked, walking closer and leaning her back against one of Harry's bedposts.

"Um..." he said, eyes on his shoes. He couldn't look at her and tell the truth. Though she knew that Harry liked Draco, and that they had kissed, he wasn't sure he knew her true feelings.

"Oh," Hermione said, her smile falling. "You're going out with Draco tonight?"

"Was it that easy?"

"Sort of," she replied. "It's just, before you got too far with Draco, maybe you should think about the situation and all. I mean, it is Draco MALFOY. He hasn't always been the nicest person out there."

"I've thought about this, Hermione, and I think I can trust him."

"Well, then maybe you had better take a look at this?"

Hermione was about to thrust the paper into his hands, but Harry backed away.

"I don't want to see it! What ever it is, it cannot be good," Harry said.

"But Harry..."

"No, Mione. I don't want to see it! Alright?"

"Harry..." Hermione said, getting frustrated. "Please, calm down..."

"No! I'm leaving!"

Harry turned around and started heading for the door.

"Harry!?" Hermione called after him.

But Harry didn't listen. He walked out of the 6th year Boys' Dormitory and out of the Common Room, to the Grand Staircase. As Harry walked, he really regretted not looking at the paper that Hermione had wanted him to take. What if it was important? Whatever it was, it was too late to go back. Draco was waiting for him. He walked down until he got to the 4th floor. When he got to the 4th floor, he stopped.

It sounded like a throng. He slowly walked down the stairs, until he got to the stairs at the 2nd floor, where he saw what everyone was talking about. Him.

A babble of excited talk broke out as Harry appeared at the top of the stairs.

Suddenly, laughter rang out, and a few cameras flashed. And standing there, in front of the crowd, was Draco Malfoy, with the biggest smirk ever.

"I guess this proves it!" Draco shouted above everyone else. "Harry Potter, your HERO, is GAY!"

Harry's eyes stung with fresh tears as he clenched his hands into fists. His knees felt like they were going to cave in, and, once again, sweat was dripping off of his forehead, as well as his hands and chest. He was literally disgusted. How could Draco do that to him?

Without thinking, Harry ran. He ran back up to the 7th floor, through the Common Room, and back into his dorm, though he did run into a few things on the way (consisting of a door, and Professor Snape, just to name a few), on account that his tears blurred his vision even more, as well as fogging up his glasses.

"Harry?!" Hermione said, surprised, as he flung open the door.

Harry quickly walked over to his trunk, lifting up the latches and pulling out the knife. He walked over to the door, but stopped, turning around to face Hermione, shaking his head slightly.

"Why?" he asked. It was the only word that he could make come out of his mouth.

"Harry, I tried to tell you, but you wouldn't listen to me. It was all over this flyer the Slytherins were giving out. But you wouldn't listen."

And again, Harry wasn't listening to her. Well, not really. Too many thoughts clouded his head to prevent him from listening. Instead, he stalked back over to the door, walked out into the Common Room, and into the Boys' Bathroom, locking it behind him, though he knew that there was a possibility that someone could magically unlock it.

He walked over to the sink, leaning against it, and looking up at his tear stained face. He couldn't take it anymore. The guilt; the shame; embarrassment; it was all too much for him to live anymore.

Slowly, he took the knife and unwrapped it from the black cloth, watching it reflect off of the light that shinned off of the mirror. He knew it. This was how it should be. He had to take his life.
