Numbuh 3 sat up in bed, gripping her belly. Tears ran down her face. Ever since Numbuh Four had stopped speaking to her, three days ago, she had been waking up with the worst stomach aches.
It just made it worse to know that tomorrow, they would be decommissioned. With birthdays only one day apart, Numbuh 1 had it arranged for Numbuh 3 to stay one day longer, on Numbuh 4's birthday.
The pain gripped at her from the inside, as though it was tearing her stomach up. Finally she couldn't take it anymore.
"Numbuh 4!" she cried, tears streaming down her cheeks. A weary Numbuh 4 stumbled into her room. Numbuh 3 sniffled. "My tummy hurts." Numbuh 4 bit back a sour remark and sat on her giant stuffed animal.
He put his head on her shoulder. Numbuh 3 started crying harder.
"You're leaving me tomorrow." she said softly.
"Shh..." Numbuh 4 whispered, "I'll still be here. I can't forget you. You should know that." He hugged her and rested his chin her head.
"But...you haven't been talking to me..." she sniffled pathetically and positioned her head so Numbuh 4 could see her face.
"I know..." he admitted quietly and hugged her closer. "But you have to know by now..." he left the sentence unfinished and kissed her on the forehead, lightly and softly, an innocent kiss in the dark. Numbuh 3 smiled.
"My tummy ache's gone." she whispered and snuggled up to Numbuh 4.
"Does that mean you want me to go?" he asked.
"No." she answered simply.
Numbuh 3 lay on her stuffed animal, wrapped in Numbuh 4's arms, and she knew that even though they were going to forget all their memories in their heads, her memories of Numbuh 4 and the others would stay with her in her heart.
Numbuh 4's breathing grew slow and relaxed, he was asleep. Numbuh 3 smiled sadly and closed her eyes, kissed him lightly on the cheek, and was captured by the darkness of sleep...
Okay...it was kind of cheesy, but I had to write a sappy story about Numbuh 3 and 4 before they're decommissioned...
