-Angel-

I remember before the war I was so happy. My smiles were real, not forced. My eyes shimmered with joy, never dull and miserable. I remember I was in love. My favorite memory was when my boyfriend Michael proposed to me.

I remember helping him move into his new house one autumn day. We were in the backyard lying on the soft, green grass, taking a break from putting in his new furniture. I remember him being really exited and proud of the fact that he was going to be a home owner at the age of 21. I was nineteen at the time.

After a few minutes of silence, just lying in the grass, holding hands, I sat up and watched Michael lay there. He was falling asleep. He was so cute in just a pair of blue jeans and a crimson button-down shirt; his hair was all messed up-I had jumped on his back earlier as he carried me upstairs, I had messed up his jet-black hair which he spiked forward-and his irresistible face made it impossible to not wanna come down and help in lug heavy furniture into his new house.

I leaned over and started to stroke his face with my finger-tips, but then his eyes shot open and he playfully tackled me. He tried another one of his attempts to beat me in a round of wrestling, even though he always let me win. We wrestled around in the grass for a few minutes until I got on top of him and pinned his arms down.

"Reach into my pocket, I got something for you." He whispered after a few seconds of intimate silence, smiling.

I did as he said a found a ring box. "Damn it Michael, what did I say about getting me gifts?! You gotta wait a while, until you get yourself back on track after buying the house!" I let go of his other hand and moved back unto his hips, getting comfortable.

"Open it." He was still smiling.

I did and found a small gold reing with a nicely sized diamond in the center.

"Will you marry me?" he asked, smiling still.

All I could do was gasp and say yes.

We were supposed to marry two months later, but he died. He was killed in a bombing at the beginning of the war, two weeks bore the wedding.. He was on his way back home from getting my wedding ring.
