Look At Me

'Look at me, Father.'

The simple sentence echoed throughout the cavernous room as a youth stepped into the deep red light and out of the doorway. His eyes glittered in an unreadable fashion as he observed the other occupant of the room calmly shut a drawer in his desk and look up at his son in a glare.

'Leave.' the one word was spoken with an arctic chill that seemed to cool the air a good ten degrees in it's wake.

'Look at me!' the youth spoke in a stronger voice, his eyes glittering in determination as he looked upon the man he called Father. 'A simple request, don't you think? A little attention from you, all I asked for was that.'

'I am looking at you, and I order you to leave my office at once.' the mans voice stayed arctic as he gazed from behind orange-tinted glasses at his son.

'I said Look at me, don't just look, Look!' the young man's voice trembled slightly as he spoke.

'You are making no sense, Pilot Ikari. Leave, or I will be forced to call security and have you escorted out.' the threat in his voice was thinly veiled, if even that.

The young man let out a slightly hysterical laugh and looked at his father 'Thats all I am to you, isn't it? A Pilot? I want you to Look at me, Father, and tell me exactly what you see.'

The man glared at his son 'I see a disobedient Pilot.'

'I knew it. You know what, Father? I've decided that you will look at me, and I you. You will see death, and I will see fear.' the young man spoke as he reached behind him and brought forward a handgun which he leveled at his father, 'And you will know the pain of being abandoned by both your wife and son, for just a brief moment, before oblivion takes it's newest victim.'

The man looked unafraid 'You do not have the guts, Pilot. Put the gun down and prepare to be detained.' he reached for a button on his desk and there was a loud bang as the youth fired at the man. The man's eyes widened as he saw this, and a hint of fear entered his eyes for a brief second before the bullet hit him in the forehead and ended his existence.

'Goodbye, Gendou Ikari.' the young man spoke as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper and dropped it, letting it drift to the floor.

'And in other news, Shinji Ikari, 14, was arrested for the murder of Gendou Ikari at 12:34 this afternoon. A note was left at the scene, stating simply 'I asked, I begged, I pleaded, and I finally told you to Look at Me. All I asked. Goodbye, Gendou. Shinji Ikari.' Mister Ikari is being held in jail, no bail. His trial is expected to be set for the near future. Now for the weather we turn to....' with a small click the television was turned off as a purple-haired woman sighed and stood up.

'I need a beer....'
