Summary: Her daughter's graduation makes her think about the one she loved.

Love at a young age is great, but a heartache can tear you up inside-that is until it is healed. I know this because a drunk driver on the way to our high school graduation killed my best friend; who happened to be my first and last love. He was only seventeen years old. I never got the chance to tell him I was pregnant.

Our daughter Kallie is just like him when it comes to being smart, considerate of others, and wanting to make movies. She looks like me with her blonde hair that happens to be curly; where mine is straight, she has my brown eyes and smile. Today she is graduating from Hillridge Senior High School. The same high school her father and I went too.

I have not thought about David until now. I have told Kallie about her father, I have given her all my photos, and I have answered all of her questions as well when she was little. Now seeing her in her powder blue cap and gown makes me cry tears of joy because she has been through so much to get to this exact moment. As she receives her diploma, she looks through the crowd for me. She sees me and smiles her wide smile that reaches to her eyes. That moment reminds me of when she was little and was proud that she did not fall off her bike when she was learning how to ride a two-wheeler. I was brought out of that memory when every one started clapping.

Kallie was ready to go after taking many pictures with her friends. We got into my red sports truck and drove out of the school parking lot. Once we were about two miles away from the school, I turned the volume down on the radio and said, "Kallie, are glad you graduated?"

For a couple of minutes she just stared out the window watching the other cars go by. She looked at me and said, "Yea, I am. I just wish dad were here to see it. I mean I know he died while you were still pregnant with me, but do you think he would be proud of me?"

We were both quiet. I did not say anything to her until I pulled into the driveway of our two story cream-colored house. We both got out of the truck, walked up the front steps I was shocked to see David standing beside Kallie. "Kallie, to answer your question I'm sure that your dad would be as proud of you as I am if not more. I know you both didn't get to meet each other, but I'm sure he's watching over you."

When I said that David's ghost left and I stood there for a moment wondering if my eyes were playing tricks on me because of the summer heat. Kallie turned to me and said, "Mom, are you alright? You look like you've just seen a ghost."

I just smiled and then said, "I did. It was your father. And he's very proud of you." Her eyes were all I needed to see. She was trying hard not to cry, so she opened the door and walked inside. I stayed and sat on the front porch. I knew I gave her some comfort and myself some as well. I just did not think it would take this long.

Authors Note: If anyone can come up with a title with this that would be great because I can't think of one.
