Chapter One: New Beginnings
When I first saw you…
I was afraid to meet you…
When I first met you…
I was afraid to kiss you…
When I first kissed you…
I was afraid to love you…
But now that I love you…
I'm afraid to lose you…
'Please…please…don't let her find me…' Kagome hid from her beating her stepmother gave her daily. Her birth mother died right after she turned 6. Kagome's father, wedded with a terrible woman by the name of Haru. Kagome's door opened. It was her, along with the stick Haru used to beat her with.
"Kagome! Tell me where you are!" she noticed the closet door, "How dare you hide from your mother!" then, Kagome was beaten to the floor she dare not move, afraid she would receive even more bruises. "It's all your fault your father's poor! With your stupid condition!" Kagome had this special heart-condition. She would lose her breath and faint at random times. Her disease would surely take away her years, and would die at a young age. Then her not worthy father came in with a sad look on his face, never did he stop his wife from beating her.
"Haru, what happened?" he asked.
"The girl forgot to buy dinner! She wants us to starve I tell you!"
"Kagome, apologize to your mother and go get dinner. Here's some money." He handed her the twenty dollar bill as Kagome tried to get up.
"Forgive me, mother." With that she ran to the store.
Kagome came in, and collected the ingredients needed to make curry. "Here Mrs. Natsu." She handed her the ingredients, and the twenty-dollar bill.
'Look at the poor dears arms…covered in bruises. Haru's a horrible woman to do this to such a kind girl.' Mrs. Natsu handed Kagome back ten dollars.
"Mrs. Natsu, I'm not supposed to get this much back." Kagome handed the money back as Mrs. Natsu gestured it back into her hands.
"Kagome…you need the money more than I. Please take it."
The teenage girl began to cry tears of thanks. "T-thank you…Mrs. Natsu…"
After getting the groceries, Kagome went ahead and took a shortcut through an alley. But without her knowledge, a knife was against her neck. "Give me all your money!" the man drove her down to the ground with the knife still against her throat. Struggling for freedom, Kagome caught a glimpse of her attacker. She saw flowing silver hair and…dog ears?!
"Let me go!" Kagome kicked the inu-youkai in between the legs, and ran away only to stop.
The man screamed in pain as he curled up into a ball on the ground. Kagome ran back to him out of compassion. "I-I'm sorry. If you need the money here." She ran away again thinking to herself, 'He must think I'm the stupidest person in the world…'
The confused hanyou lay on the ground watching the girl run. He looked at the money she had given to him, 'She must be pretty stupid or just… nice.' Acts of kindness was something Inuyasha never experienced. Getting up, he followed the girl's scent to return the money.
