Starless
What I'm really trying hard to get down to words
Is the way I fit into this world
Things I survived pushed me to the darker side
Because of life as it was the life that was
Yours should've never been mine;
Proløgue;
The floorboards creaked with the annoying sound of old wood bending under an average weighted body, also sounding a lot louder than it normally should have. There was a pause; no sound was heard. Good, nobody had woken up and the creeping began once again. Slender, but work-knowing hands brushed the walls ever-so-slightly as to best navigate down the dark hallway illuminated solely by the moonlight filtering through the doorway at the end. The smell of sweet potpourri grew steadily stronger as the end of the hallway neared, and there was still silence. A silence that felt heavy, like a semi-thick layer of dust that could have disastrous consequences if disturbed, such as breathing on it and blowing it up into your face.
The carpet made little noise once inside that door at the end of the hall where the moonlight filtered through the window. The carpet was also quite soft under bare, slightly sore feet and very comfortable once Indian-style next to the bed. Especially if it's the cold ground you're used to sitting on all the time. Leaning against a wooden desk across from the bed where the girl slept, sleek golden eyes watched carefully for a time while absorbing her every sweet, pure feature. The new day was yet many hours away; there was a lot of time to kill and little will to sleep. However deep down the boy with long, iridescent silver hair and golden eyes knew sleep was inevitable and greatly needed. He knew soon sleep would befall him and he would be plunged into the dark abyss known as the sub-conscious state; hopefully dreamless, because, dreams that came to this young boy were never happy ones.
But at this present time he was in a place where he was not the hunted, and nothing was expected to come crawling out of the corner to attack the one he watched over so carefully while she unknowingly slept on peacefully and at ease. And for this peacefulness and ease about her face while she slept, he was grateful. But soon morning would come and he would have to bring her back to the one place she didn't have to go with him and hadn't deserved to be dragged into in the first place. Yet…it was her choice, despite many attempts to keep her safe and leave her behind.
One last glance at the girl with pale pink pajamas and flowing black hair was had before heavy eyelids betrayed him and darkness fell.
