I promised you that I would protect you. Do you remember that promise? When you needed me, I would be there to protect you. Maybe you just asked it on a whim. Something that would keep us connected. Although we never were very close. In fact, that was the first day that you talked to me.

Sometimes I wonder, why did you ask that. Did you really think that one day our path's would cross again? Although they rarely crossed previously. The hours we spent together... What hours? Perhaps you just wanted the reassurance, although truthfully I don't dwell on it so much. But I made that promise to you and I never made promises lightly before. I swore to you I would be there when you needed me and I was. You may not have known it but I kept that promise amongst the many that I had broken.

In the distance, I can see you. Standing in that field as the sun slowly begins to set. It engulfs the sea of flowers in gold. Everything shimmers in the dying light. The flowers and fields. And you, your eyes are glowing slight flashes of gold. Rustling of the tree's sweep me up in their embrace. Tickling my sense's with the sweet fragrance of tulips. They grow out here, away from the harshness of reality.

When you envelop yourself in that breeze do you remember? I remember. The way it can rush me back to that night, the cool breeze of a dying summer night. But now, I don't want to go back to those days. Where I was simply a shadow in your world. With no form, with nothing but a name, a name you rarely whispered.

When you did, the wind would catch it and carry it to my ears. Sad in tone, but the only bright spot in my meager existence. It was you and you never knew it. But it doesn't matter now, as I have you now with me.

Don't let the wind carry you away from me. I don't want to be alone. Alone in this field of gold.
