While you were away I slipped into darkness.
Things so bright lost their gleam.
Living was in the abyss, dark and dank.

While you were away I lost focus,
You were my guiding light from ashore.
Time ebbed on as tasks were completed,
Concentration became a thing of the past,
Thoughts were wondering else where.

While you were gone I created masks,
Façades were in place,
Appearances were kept,
Nothing different, or so it seemed.

While you were away I became bitter,
Cynical thoughts roamed my mind.
Longings started to fade,
Masks were dropped no need for them,
Sarcasm laced my words,
Fake smiles replaced by unfazed smirks.

Now that your gone I realize I don't need you,
Accustomed to the darkness, here I stay.
No thoughts lingering on you,
Refusing to think of you.
Masks go unneeded, I am the image,
Walking on the road named life, moving forward,
Without a second glance, goodbye.

For those who are confused or disappointed I wrote this as if someone was reflecting, or at least that is what I was trying to do.
I'm iffy on a few lines, but I think it's all right. Please review, I am looking to improve so feedback would help greatly.
