He sat perched in his tree

Ripped between who it should be

The first he gave his heart for

Or the woman who melted his icy core

Inuyasha leaned against the goshinboku, he sighed heavily peering down into the fire he had made for Kagome to sleep by. She was wrapped up in sleeping bag with the kitsune hugged against her stomach. He moved slightly muttering just loudly for the hanyou to hear, yet not loud enough for him to make out the words. He turned his head to looked at the sky. Its endless blackness almost hypnotizing. He blinked in surprise as a glimpse of a memory he had locked up fled back to the hanyou.

"Kikyou," he whispered softly to himself. The mention of her name brought someone else's name with it. "Kagome," he said whispering to himself again. He jumped down from the tree landing gracefully in the miko's midst. He knelt beside her sleeping body. He moved the tuft of hair hanging in her face behind her hair, careful not to wake her or the sleeping fox.

"Kagome…I love you, but Kikyou…I owe her to much."
